"My father-in-law is a big fisherman and watches a lot of fishing shows," Craig tells The Boot. "He sent me a link one day and said, 'This girl would be perfect for your 'Fish' video.' I looked at it and was like, 'Wow! He's right.' I thought it was a long shot, but I sent it on to my people and was like, 'What are the chances of getting this girl in my video?' They tracked her down and she said yes. She has a show on the World Fishing Network called 'Hooking Up With Mariko Izumi.' She's hot; she was perfect for the part."
"I have to be honest, I wasn't super hardcore into country music," Mariko admits, "but as soon as I heard 'Fish,' I was loving it! I'm very pumped to be a part of this whole thing."
Craig shares with The Boot this exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the 'Fish' video shoot. Watch it below.
In the video, Craig and Mariko play out the song's clever lyrics. "It's about a guy wanting to impress a girl, and in his mind the best way is to take her fishing," the singer explains. "There is a double entendre kind of thing ... it's poetry, and it doesn't have to rhyme. You think we're gonna say something else, but we don't. I think it's gonna be a big 'ole summertime hit!"
The official video for 'Fish' will be out later this summer. Craig is currently on the Country Throwdown tour with Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser and several other fellow country stars. Check out a full list of tour dates and cities here.
