"This is an amazing group of songwriters and songwriter/artists," says John Van Mol, chairman of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation (quote via NewsOK). "Every one of them is extremely worthy of induction, and it is our honor to place each of their names in nomination."
Garth, Alan, Amy, Larry and Townes van Zandt are all nominated in the Songwriter/Artist category. From the extensive list, one songwriter/artist and two songwriters will be inducted at a special ceremony in Music City on October 16. Tickets will be available in late August.
Garth is responsible for penning several of his chart-topping hits, including 'If Tomorrow Never Comes,' 'What She's Doing Now' and 'The Beaches of Cheyenne.' But it's his first single, 'Much Too Young,' which he wrote with Randy Taylor, that stands out in his mind the most.
"Thank God I was by myself because I almost killed the poor old lady that was driving next to me. I just about ran her off the road!" Garth recalls to The Boot about the first time he heard that song played on the radio. "It's a memory that you'll remember forever. I was in my red Silverado Truck that I moved to town in. It was big for me. I wanted everyone to hear it. It's everything you think it's going to be. And then it never gets old. When we were doing nights, when you go play bars and stuff, the radio people that were there say, 'OK, we're going to play it as soon as we get back to the station,' and you tune it in on the bus just to hear it. It's great. You can play the record all day but there's something special about when it comes on the radio!"
Garth is continuing his concerts in Las Vegas, where he performs at the Wynn Encore Theater. Tickets for his upcoming shows, which begin at $225, are available here. The husband of Trisha Yearwood is also rumored to be working on a brand-new album.
