Fresh from his Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in New York City, Garth Brooks is nominated for another prestigious honor for his tunesmith talents. The 'Shameless' singer,' who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 16 by Billy Joel, is also nominated for inclusion in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He joins several other wordsmiths, including Alan Jackson, Amy Grant, Larry Gatlin, John Bettis, Gretchen Peters, Allen Shamblin and the late Townes van Zandt, in being included in this year's list of nominees.

"This is an amazing group of songwriters and songwriter/artists," says John Van Mol, chairman of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation (quote via NewsOK). "Every one of them is extremely worthy of induction, and it is our honor to place each of their names in nomination."

Garth, Alan, Amy, Larry and Townes van Zandt are all nominated in the Songwriter/Artist category. From the extensive list, one songwriter/artist and two songwriters will be inducted at a special ceremony in Music City on October 16. Tickets will be available in late August.

Garth is responsible for penning several of his chart-topping hits, including 'If Tomorrow Never Comes,' 'What She's Doing Now' and 'The Beaches of Cheyenne.' But it's his first single, 'Much Too Young,' which he wrote with Randy Taylor, that stands out in his mind the most.

"Thank God I was by myself because I almost killed the poor old lady that was driving next to me. I just about ran her off the road!" Garth recalls to The Boot about the first time he heard that song played on the radio. "It's a memory that you'll remember forever. I was in my red Silverado Truck that I moved to town in. It was big for me. I wanted everyone to hear it. It's everything you think it's going to be. And then it never gets old. When we were doing nights, when you go play bars and stuff, the radio people that were there say, 'OK, we're going to play it as soon as we get back to the station,' and you tune it in on the bus just to hear it. It's great. You can play the record all day but there's something special about when it comes on the radio!"

Garth is continuing his concerts in Las Vegas, where he performs at the Wynn Encore Theater. Tickets for his upcoming shows, which begin at $225, are available here. The husband of Trisha Yearwood is also rumored to be working on a brand-new album.

“THE SHIRT HE ONCE WORE”

VERSE: My Son..He’s in the Military now.
And I would give the whole wide world to be with him some how.
But I know that can never be.
He’s a grown man fighting to keep our country free.

CHORUS: Though...he’s many miles away in this Iraqi war,
I feel so close to my son,
when I wear the shirt he once wore.

VERSE: You know..my son gave me his old work shirt.
It was ragged and worn covered with dirt.
I washed it and wore it I didn’t know why.
Now he feels so close to me as American Soldier’s die.

CLIMB: With our flag flying high,
Yellow ribbons in the wind.
I will cherish his old shirt until I see him again.

CHORUS: Though...he’s many miles away in this Iraqi war,
I feel so close to my son,
When I wear the shirt he once wore.

VERSE: Daily...I search for hope to face the unknown.
and praying that soon, he will be coming home.
This old shirt is trash to some but I wear so proudly.
It is a priceless treasure, my Son gave to me.

CHORUS: Though...he’s many miles away in this Iraqi war,
I feel so close to my son,
When I wear the shirt he once wore.
