'The Merry Goes 'Round' is Jewel's second collection of children's music and was partly inspired by her newborn son, Kase Townes Murray, who was born on July 11. The new mom's first children's album, 'Lullaby,' was released in 2009, featuring the single 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow,' which hit No. 1 on the Top Children's Songs chart.
"I want the album to be fun for kids and adults, whether they have kids or not. I looked at it as a chance to write songs for my baby boy, that he can dance around to when he arrives," Jewel revealed on her website.
"I actually used a Beatles song, 'Rocky Raccoon,' as a template, because I think it's a song adults love and kids love. I want this to be an album that if you're an adult, you're gonna enjoy this record too," she told The Boot back in February. "It's nothing radio ready; it's a fun, whimsical, kind of silly album that hopefully turns a phrase and is well-crafted."
'The Merry Goes 'Round' is available in standard and deluxe editions, both of which are autographed by Jewel, and feature six acoustic versions of album tracks. The album is in stores on August 16, and is available for presale here.
