Chely Wright Ties the Knot in Connecticut

It's official: Chely Wright is a 'Single White Female' no longer.

Following a highly public four-month engagement, the openly gay country singer tied the knot today in Connecticut, saying "I do" to GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) activist Lauren Blitzer.

Throughout Friday, the eve of her big day, Chely took to Twitter to thank fans for their support. She also posted a picture of a Scrabble-style rug Lauren's aunt Debbie had made for the couple as a wedding gift. Words spelled out across the fuzzy board include "Connecticut," "authors," "music" and "marriage."

While the two lovebirds, like any couple, have their differences -- Chely is a Christian vegetarian from Kansas, while Lauren is a Jewish meat eater from New York City -- the wedding was to reflect both brides' personalities.

Earlier this year, Chely told People magazine that a rabbi and priest would preside over the ceremony, while New York City barbecue restaurant Blue Smoke was to handle the menu. Because live wedding bands make Chely "nervous," the singer opted not to hire one.

"Sometimes they're not great, and I'd be going, 'Ugh, that doesn't sound right,'" Chely told People, explaining her decision to hire a deejay. "So we're going to play all the campiest, cheesiest songs you can think of -- 'Vogue,' 'You Shook Me All Night Long' ..."

Chely first met Lauren in the spring of 2010, weeks after becoming the first mainstream country artist to publicly out herself as a lesbian. The two were drawn together by youth advocacy work in New York City, where they reside. While the Empire State now recognizes same-sex marriages, the law hadn't yet passed in April, when the couple became engaged.

This is NOT a legitimate marriage. Marriage will always be intended for one man with one woman. Anything else is a sin in God's eyes. Chely's relationship is an abomination according to the Bible. Repent your sins Chely!

I am a 32 yr old gay male and I was born and raised on Country Music and it is still my all time favorite music. I am so happy that we are having gay/lesbian country singers coming out and being happy and getting married. I wish there were more that would. They are happy with each other! Congrats to them both! If you don't like it or can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all. Do any you that have said something bad have any gay or lesbian relatives? How do you treat them?

Well if I had any gay or lesbian relatives first I would pray for them as I pray for you to change your ways according to scripture. Keep in mind being gay or lesbian doesn't mean we hate or dislike you we simply want you to read the BIBLE and you will find God does not forgive the sin of homosexuality. it is written many a time thru numerous scriptures. Why do you think God created Man & Woman? or Male & female animals? So we can reproduce and raise a loving family to Praise and worship God ! Just not saying anything is not the answer ! We must say something to try to wake up all the children of God that have chosen the wrong paths in Life. We are humans and are not perfect. That is why God sent his Son Jesus to DIE for us so we may be cleansed of sin so we may enter the Kingdom of God. The path of Christiananity is narrow and the devil's path is wide, You are presently living in the devil's domain and God knows this and has given you free will to choose the right path. You only have one life to live so the way you conduct yourself now will be how you will be judged.

Congratulations to the happy couple!
I hope that you are able to rise above the unfortunate bigotry of some of my fellow country music fans.

God Bless you Chely and Lauren and congratulations on your marriage. I salute you both for being open about your sexuality in a community of fans that tends towards the conservative and unsurprisingly has been less than supportive, to put it mildly. While it is not your responsibility to be someone for other LBGTs to look up to and be inspired by, you have both been inspirations. Over 50% of LBGT teens attempt suicide at least once (the statistic is higher in populations such as country music fans belong to) due to their despair and shame over their sexuality. NO ONE should be ashamed of the way God made them. In seeing couples such as yours, these teens can feel more normal and less like they need to hide who they are - the essence of who they are, and the natural expression of their feelings. I look forward to the day when all can share in the joy of your wedding. I look forward to the day when the sex of either of the wedding party is not even an item of interest. You have love, the greatest gift God can give us! Those who would judge - any of you could have a child who is gay/lesbian/transgendered or bisexual. Would you stop loving your child? Would you cast your child out? There is no shame in being a non-heterosexual. I pray that you would love your child, and take joy if your child is fortunate enough to find the wonderful love of a lifetime partner! God is Love, and God loves ALL his children. Chely and Lauren, may you have many happy years together. Please don't let the ignorance of others spoil this very happy occasion!

Such a sick twisted society we live in. Wright is wrong! And so is her misled "friend" Blitzer. Country, huh? More like Cuntry!

The Bible has many many many parts that society today does not agree with or allow, yet all the "christians" love to forget. Slavery, rape, stoning of women.. just to name a few.. Follow ALL your laws or shut the hell up. If you don't like gay marriage then don't get married to someone of the same sex.

Elise, as I said before we humans don't judge. You are wrong when you said God doesn't JUDGE. God does judge and if you don't live by the good book you will be judged when the time comes as all of us will. If your lifestyle goes against the laws of God you will know. The Bible has been written many of times by man but it never changes ! The commanments remain the same the laws remain the same. God loves us all but our free will will dictate how we followed him thru Jesus.Christ or how we broke all the laws as given to us. We still have time to change and live life the way it has been written I'am not a hater of any man but only hate the way people keep breaking the laws of God. I can't change way the way it has been written but do pray any one who reads these articles can see the truthAgain do you think doing a negative "smoking a joint" will change us ? I doubt it. you must be ground into your faith before it's to late and you will know that when the time comes. REPENT AND SAVE YOURSELF !

Elise, at the end of your statement You said " TO DO BETTER WITH YOUR TIME AND PRAY HAHA" first the better of all christians time is praying ! We pray for everyone including you and all that need it. Take time and pray to help people come to God thru Jesus Christ to save the total negative life people are leading. And you should never think that praying deserves a "HAHA" it is a sacred way to communicate with our FATHER You and many more need to take the time and read the Bible and learn the word. These articles are read and we comment on them to help you people get to know Gods Word.
