'Footloose' Premieres in Tennessee

The new 'Footloose' movie, which stars Nashville's own Julianne Hough, premiered in Franklin, Tennessee, just south of Nashville, last night (October 6). Plenty of stars strolled down the red carpet, including the film's leading men, Kenny Wormald and Miles Teller, plus several country music celebrities, including Julianne, Blake Shelton, Lauren Alaina, Hunter Hayes, Whitney Duncan, Jana Kramer and Big & Rich, who give the movie two thumbs up.

"I saw the whole thing, and it is absolutely fantastic," Big Kenny told The Boot on the red carpet. "I'm really excited to see it again. They definitely stepped it up and if nothing else, they brought it to our times.The music's got the edge of our times in it."

Filmgoers may be a bit surprised that 'Dancing With the Stars' champ Julianne does very little fancy footwork in the flick. But fans of the 1984 original, starring Kevin Bacon, will be pleasantly surprised at the remake's respect for its predecessor. Julianne, who stars as preacher's daughter Ariel, tells The Boot that a last-minute change in film director and script kept the remake from straying too far from the cult classic.

"It was going to be this singing, dancing, big shebang movie," she explains. "Now it's more like the original and really, really holding all the key points from the movie. It's great for me, because I feel like it's a real performance, acting piece for me. I don't sing or dance in it, so it's going to be really fun and challenging."
