The talented twosome were all smiles at last night's ceremony, with a sultry performance of 'Run' with pop singer Matt Nathanson and their sixth career CMA Award win, but the singers admit the past year took its toll on them.
"We're so grateful, the fans saved our lives this year," says Jennifer, speaking about the outpouring of support following the Indiana State Fair tragedy. "They've been instrumental in the healing from that tragedy, not only for us but also for the people of Indianapolis."
Sugarland also found support from their industry peers last night, taking home Duo of the Year honors for the fifth consecutive year. Despite their winning streak, the two remain surprised about their continuing success.
"You can't expect anything in this industry," Jennifer quipped backstage. "If you do, you're setting yourself up! [laughs]"
"We appreciate all the work that all the other acts put in ... in all the categories," Kristian Bush added. "To just be invited here is a big deal."
Before their much needed hiatus, Sugarland will perform during the 'CMA Country Christmas' televised holiday special tonight, with Jennifer hosting the star-studded event for the second consecutive year. The show will air on Dec. 1 at 9:00 PM ET on ABC.
