Gretchen Wilson Puts Ranch on Market Following Uncle's Death

Gretchen Wilson is still mourning the loss of her beloved Uncle Vern (Vernon Heuer), who passed away suddenly from a heart attack in September at the age of 44. Now, the 'Redneck Woman' has decided the home they shared on her 360-acre farm holds too many memories, so she has put it on the market.

"We just can't be there without him," the 38-year-old tells Nashville's Tennessean. "It's not the same anymore. Everywhere I look, I see him. I miss him."

The Illinois native shared the ranch with her daughter Grace, plus various other family members, but says it's time to move on.

"It's a great place for a tight family," she adds. "That was our dream, to live and work together there. The dream will have to live on for someone else now."

The singer-songwriter released her first album, 'I Got Your Country Right Here' on her own label, Redneck Records, in 2009. She wrapped up the Xtreme Muzik tour with good friends Big & Rich in September, and plans to hit the road to perform several solo dates in 2012.

I doubt that she could afford it anymore. Her career tanked and she had to mortgage the farm for her last album which didn't sell.

Sold for 2.9 million. It's hard to believe that summer ranch where all the family went to hang out for a few weeks is gone, but it was a place where her and Uncle Vern always hung out, and the memories are very painful. I must admit, I will miss seeing everyone's smiling faces out by the pool whenever we go to visit, but it was a good choice on her part because she wouldn't be happy there without him.

She should keep the Ranch. I live in the home that my Mother died in. At first I didn't like it. In time my memories of her in what is now my home became a comfort to me.

Uhh, people, this is just a front for your sympathy...She put her ranch up to front her latest album and it isn't selling well enough for her to get her money back....Sorry guys, but it's the truth....She hasn't been a money-maker for quite some time. She's just been in the news alot for OTHER things..

No, actually, she did sell it because of her Uncle's passing. Her and her uncle have been family friends of ours for years, and when we talked to her at the visitation, she was talking about putting it on the market then. Don't say stuff unless it's fact.

you need to take time before you make a decision like that, selling the ranch would only let your beloved uncle down especially when you had dreams of all living there, you will feel him there, thru the sun and thru the rain, dont make decisions so soon you will later regret!! sorry for your loss!

Gretchen, please you and your family take more time to make that decision. The warm and wonderful memories are there, and that is what is to be in a close family. Preserve those memories as well as makiing more new warm and wonderful memories. One day you will be glad you did, it will take time, but it is to soon for making that decision right now.

It's a good thing that memories of a lost relative still linger.. I live in the home where my Mom, Dad, and Husband passed away..Sometimes I feel them here with me.. Makes me feel better knowing that they are here....
