Wade Hayes Battling Stage IV Colon Cancer

Beth Gwinn, FilmMagic.com

Singer Wade Hayes, whose hits include his chart-topping 1994 debut single, 'Old Enough to Know Better,' has been diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. Roughstock.com reported late last week that the Oklahoma native "recently made it through surgery and is resting comfortably."

Sources reported that the cancer had spread from his colon to his liver. "His prognosis is very good," the website reports. "And after healing from surgery, he will undergo six months of chemotherapy. While he is doing well, he still has a long road ahead."

The 42-year-old, who scored four consecutive Top 10 hits in 1994 and '95, went on to become one half of the short-lived duo, McHayes and also played guitar in former Alabama lead singer Randy Owen's touring band. In 2009, he released his most recent album, 'A Place to Turn Around.'

While no other details are being shared at this time, a tweet from Saturday (Dec. 10) on the singer's Twitter page reads: "I've talked with Wade's mother and she wants you to know how much she appreciates your prayers and support."

In 2010, Wade was among the artists who played the Stars Go Blue for Colon Cancer benefit in Nashville.

Wade, we're in this boat together. December 10 was my first anniversary of getting the worst news of my life. I am also at stage 4, so I know just what you're going through. There is a great website called mycrcconnections.com where I've found a lot of comfort and support. If you ever need an understanding ear or even a shoulder to cry on, that's a great place to start.

Wade...while I didn't have colon cancer, I did have Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Cancer is cancer. I wish you the best. I went through 6 months of chemo...it wasn't always easy, but it's doable my freind. Prayers are with you.

Wade,I had stg 4 Hodgkins in 1991 and was told I had 6 months to a year to live with aggressive chemo. Instead I went to Tijuana for 3 weeks to the Gerson Clinic and came home cured. When doctor K from Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield WI saw me 3 months later and I told him what I did, he said he didn't want to hear anymore nonsense.
What can I say.

Best of luck brother.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer in late July...tumor was not detected with the colonoscopy. So they are not always accurate. God bless him with this long journey that awaits him!

His mother made a statement so does that mean he hasn't even been married yet? He hasn't even experienced having a child? So sad. I hope his treatment's are very successfu.

Colonoscopies provide early detection...my dad was a 35-year survivor--first detected in his 60's. He lived into his 90's--if it runs in your family, get checked at least every 3-5 years!

My thoughts & prayers go out to Wade for a full recovery so that he can continue making music. I hope this sad news turns into a very happy ending for this very young man. My thoughts also go out to his Mother & the rest of his family. Wade needs his Mom to take care of him as most often Mom's truly are the best medicine.
