"Thanks to all the wonderful people all over the world that prayed their special prayers. I'm a new man," states the 74-year-old (quote via Nashville's Tennessean). "Another special thanks to the folks of Macon, Ga., for their kindness, intelligence and probably saving my life."
The 'Okie From Muskogee' singer initially entered the Georgia hospital on Jan. 17, to be treated for an undisclosed illness. He was discharged three days later, but quickly returned when he realized he was still feeling ill. Fortunately, because of his readmission, doctors were able to diagnose the root of his health problems.
According to a hospital spokesperson, the Country Music Hall of Fame member had three stomach ulcers, eight polyps in his colon and diverticulitis of the esophagus.
Thankfully, he is now on the road to recovery, and plans to return to the road in the near future. His website lists his next scheduled show for Feb. 28 in Tuscon, Arizona. See his concert schedule here.
