Eric Church, 'Springsteen' Lyrics: Story Behind the Song

Gino DePinto, AOL

Back in December, we posted our picks for the songs we hope will be singles in 2012. And now, our No. 1 wish has come true! Eric Church has officially released 'Springsteen' as the third single from his Grammy-nominated 'Chief' album.

The country superstar sang 'Springsteen,' along with several other hits, live in our Sessions studio last summer. (Watch the video below.) He explained to us after his performance that the real-life story behind the tune didn't actually start with The Boss.

"The interesting part is it's a love affair that takes place in an amphitheater between two people," Eric told The Boot. "It didn't happen with Springsteen, ironically, it happened with another artist. I went to a concert when I was younger with a girl, and to this day when I hear that artist, it's the soundtrack to that girl. I never think about her any other time, except when that song is on. That's where the 'Springsteen' came from, and he seemed to be the perfect guy to craft that story around because of my love for him ... I have such a reverence for Bruce Springsteen's career and how he's built it."

Eric is now on his Blood, Sweat and Beers tour in support of 'Chief.' "Somebody asked me what I was more of -- I would said beer, then it would be sweat, then there was a lot of blood," he tells the Associated Press with a laugh. "There's been some blood along the way. I think it's fitting for the kind of tour it's going to be. It's going to be very in your face like the rest of our stuff. Probably, some parental guidance will be needed. That's OK. It's the kind of show we've always put on, and the kind of show I enjoy."

There's a good reason why Eric Church, (along with 95% of the Country Music Industry) admires Springsteen so much. It's because he gives his entire heart and soul to his audience, and communicate with them as if he were singing to them alone in over 3 hour concerts for the last 40 years There's never been a country act that played that long in their entire history, unless they were on the amateur level doing Moose Lodge gigs and the like. And even then they wold take 3 20-25 minute breaks. The Boss doesn't stop for a break at all. That's why he's called The Boss. Also, Mr. McMusters below said he hoped Eric wasn't emulating such a low life. Oh, you mean the guy who has won 2 Acadamy Awards, 21 Grammys, and had more books written about him than any other musical artist on the planet? He (along with Bob Dylan) was voted the most admired writer in the US. Oh yeah, he sang on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for the President's inaugural in 2008. We should all hope to be so trashy I would think.

Springsteen himself is a kool-aid drinking flaming Lib. He was "Born to Run" on all his wives. I hope Eric isn't emulating such a low-life.

REALLY McMusters...I don't know where you get your info. Springsteen has along ago commented that his FIRST wife divorced him. Due to basically pressure of the media them following everywhere. They were seperated long before the public knew... Him and his wife,Patti, have been married almost 25 years wit 3 childern...So the remarks about "born to run" on ALL of his "wives: would be a lie.
