JT Hodges, 'The Dance': Country Newcomer Covers Garth Brooks [VIDEO]

ShowDog-Universal

Today marks the release of JT Hodges new single, 'Goodbyes Made You Mine,' but in the spirit of Valentine's Day, the Texas-born singer is offering fans a second romantic song, free of charge. It's a solo acoustic video performance of Garth Brooks' 'The Dance,' and in the black-and-white clip (after the jump), the up-and-coming country singer turns in a sincere, understated performance.

One of Garth's best-known tunes, 'The Dance' can best be summed up with a cliched phrase: It's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. In the song, the narrator looks back on a relationship that ended badly but left behind a lasting memory of one perfect moment: "the dance we shared beneath the stars above."

JT may finally be dancing again following the knee surgery he underwent late last year. The former multi-sport high school athlete is prepping the release of his debut album, due out later this year on Toby Keith's Show Dog-Universal label.

Hello. I thought that as a lifelong Garth Brooks fan from the time that I was 2 years old, I would let the writer of this article know that The Dance is not about a lost love, or at least, that isn't what Garth intended for it. He has always been very skilled at putting powerful double meanings in his songs, and when he says "I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance," he refers to the pain that one goes through in life and their eventual death, especially when they die for a cause that they believe in. For example, Dr. Martin Luther King probably could have lived his whole life peacefully (missed the pain) had he not lead the civil rights movement, but instead, he chose to stand in the face of adversity and attempt to make a change in the world (the dance), and he lost his life because of it. The Dance is about people like him. It has NOTHING to do with a love gone bad. A reference to show that this is true can be seen in the official video for the song.

First let me say he is a good singer. But no one and i mean no one should ever try to redo that song. Garth Brooks did it perfecf. This version was way too fast and upbeat. I love this song it is my absolute favorite song ever. So i guesz it would take a lot to impress me. The man i associate with this song passed away a few years ago so that makss it even harder. We were no longer together but still loved each othef.
