"'Drunk on You' is one of my favorite songs on Luke's album. I think that's going to be a monster song for him," Jason tells country radio consultants Albright & O'Malley. "That song got pitched to us and at the time, for whatever reason, I wasn't looking for that type of song and we ended up passing on it ... I'll probably be kicking myself!"
'Drunk on You,' written by Rodney Clawson, Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins, appears on Luke's gold-selling 'Tailgates and Tanlines' album.
"The first line of the chorus is, 'You make my speakers go boom-boom' ... You know how trucks and cars are these days with the sound systems --you get a little hip-hop in there and it's thumping pretty good," Rodney Clawson tells Taste of Country with a laugh. "Then the line, 'Drip of honey on the money maker, gotta be the best buzz I'm ever gonna find' ... People from where I grew up just look at me and say the line to me, and they'll be like, 'What does that mean?' My standard answer is, 'Exactly what you think it does.' The song is about a girl that this guy is just head over heels about."
Luke and Jason are traveling the country together on the My Kinda Party tour. Jason hints that they may soon take a detour to the recording studio together.
"I would say the chances are really good," he says of a possible duet with Luke. "We're actually out here on the road writing some songs right now."
