Randy Travis Arrest Video Released

Denton County Sheriff Office

Randy Travis was cooperative with police on the morning of Feb. 6, when he was arrested for public intoxication. But the country legend didn't understand what he'd done wrong.

"Yes sir, I have," Travis responds to the arresting officer when asked if he'd been drinking. "But I am not driving, as you can see."

The video below was shot from the dashboard of a police car in Sanger, Texas, as officers approached the 52-year-old singer's Pontiac sports car, parked in front of a church. After Travis stepped out of his vehicle, police looked inside to find an open bottle of wine.

"Here's what's going to happen tonight: you're going to go to jail for public intoxication," the officer says to Travis, to which the country icon responds, "Really? Are you kidding me?"

In fact, the 'Forever and Ever, Amen' singer was still in disbelief while riding in the back of the police car, on his way to the Denton County jail. "Will anyone drive me back to my vehicle?" Travis asks from the back seat.

The singer was charged with a misdemeanor and released six hours later. He issued a statement to the Associated Press that same afternoon, apologizing for "what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl." He went on to promise that he is "committed to being responsible and accountable."

On a happier note, Travis is celebrating 25 illustrious years in the music business with a cross-country tour. Get a full list of cities and dates here.

Most likely every person here at some point in their life has driven home from a bar, club or party after some drinking...even police officers...not the best choice but most of us have probably taken that chance of getting caught...i love how people are now labeling him as an alcoholic.

I think they just wanted to make it known , since he is a well- known singer. Police don't care if he is Randy Travis or not.

I've always liked Randy Travis....and I don't think he should have been arrested public intoxication...in my opinion has gone too far. He was sitting in his car...not causing any kind of public nuisence. I was arrested for drunk driving once...and should've been in jail....but I think the law carries public intoxication too far...unles the person drunk does something to show they are drunk.

Ok people, lets get this straight! I live in Minnesota & if you are intoxicated sitting in your vehicle WITH YOUR KEYS ON YOUR PERSON! you will get arrested! Don't get me wrong I think it stinks too, I remember the old days also where the cop would just drive you home. But those days are long gone. The key thing is if you have your keys on you & you decide to take a little snooze to sober up, it doesn't count, because you can still drive off later thinking your alright when your not! That's the stickler, yea it sucks but that's where they get you.

Do the Police stop and arrest every drunk person in the steets of that city, if they dont then this is a poor case for asking people to not drink and drive, If people are going to be arrested for sleeping it off in their cars then you will find more people willing to try to get home with the resulting accidents and death, not the best decision by the police.
