Denton County Sheriff Office
"Yes sir, I have," Travis responds to the arresting officer when asked if he'd been drinking. "But I am not driving, as you can see."
The video below was shot from the dashboard of a police car in Sanger, Texas, as officers approached the 52-year-old singer's Pontiac sports car, parked in front of a church. After Travis stepped out of his vehicle, police looked inside to find an open bottle of wine.
"Here's what's going to happen tonight: you're going to go to jail for public intoxication," the officer says to Travis, to which the country icon responds, "Really? Are you kidding me?"
In fact, the 'Forever and Ever, Amen' singer was still in disbelief while riding in the back of the police car, on his way to the Denton County jail. "Will anyone drive me back to my vehicle?" Travis asks from the back seat.
The singer was charged with a misdemeanor and released six hours later. He issued a statement to the Associated Press that same afternoon, apologizing for "what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl." He went on to promise that he is "committed to being responsible and accountable."
On a happier note, Travis is celebrating 25 illustrious years in the music business with a cross-country tour. Get a full list of cities and dates here.
