"I just can't do it," he told the crowd in a hoarse voice after singing 'Here For a Good Time' and 'I Gotta Get to You' (quote via the Kansas City Star). The 18,000 fans in attendance were fully supportive of the country music icon, giving him a standing ovation as he exited the stage.
Martina, who had finished her hour-long set before the King of Country postponed the show, has already committed to return with George this Saturday, March 3, for another performance, which will be the final date on their tour.
The country music icon, who boasts the most No. 1 singles of any artist in history, recently celebrated another career first. George was honored with a plaque by his record label last week, acknowledging his very first No. 1 tune as a songwriter, for 'Here For a Good Time.'
The Texas native's latest single, 'Love's Gonna Make It Alright,' is in the Top 10 and climbing. George may take some time off the road after this weekend's concert, but he won't be staying idle. The first-time grandfather will undoubtedly spend much of his time on his newly-renovated golf course, Tapatio Springs Golf Resort and Conference Center.
