Matt Kennon Baby News: Singer & Wife Tisha Welcome Daughter

Music City News Media

It's a girl! Matt Kennon and wife Tisha are proud to announce the arrival of Shaynee Matisse Kennon, born Feb. 23.

"I knew the second I saw her, I was a goner," says the proud dad of his daughter, who weighed in at 7 lbs, 2 oz., and measured 20 inches long. "A beautiful, little gift has entered our lives."

'The Call' singer will no doubt take cues from his own parents when it comes to raising Shaynee. Matt was adopted at birth by a Georgia couple who had lost three of their biological children in a house fire. He credits his parents with instilling morals, values and the drive to chase his musical dreams.

"My adoptive parents have been God sent," Matt tells music journalist Bev Moser. "From them almost not getting me and telling the doctor they wanted me sight unseen, it truly was a miracle. They have always been supportive. Whether sports or music, whatever I was into, they were 100 percent behind me. They did their best to raise me the right way, and I believe their raising and support has helped me get to where I am and be the person I am.

"I never got too far down the road because of the way I was raised," he continues. "I would feel guilty before I ever drank a beer under age or anything like that. Parents always have a way of finding things out. I have never been arrested, in jail or anything so I owe them for showering me with that abundance of love. Even when pain and disappointments showed up, I was always able to pull through. It was because of their love and God's love. I owe them for both of those."

Congrats to the parents and grandparents of the beautiful Shaynee Matisse!

I don't know who this person is (aside from singing) but I say congrats. He deserves to be happy and crediting his adoptive parents for how he was raised is beautiful. Something to pass on to his own angel.

This guy is amazing, and his attitude tells us exactly who he is. The baby is gorgeous, and blessed to have the parents and grandparents she has. His parents are to be admired because they wanted him "sight unseen". I am absolutely in awe of that. Having been one of the children whom no one wanted, never having had a support system, a kind word, a soft place to fall, arms to hug me, etc., I can appreciate, more than most, the power of that one statement. The orphanages regularly sent us out for "interviews" to see if anyone wanted us, and no one ever wanted me. I was too quiet, too smart, too far ahead of my peer group, not pretty enough, etc., etc. I was crushed beyond belief, especially when EVERYONE wanted my two adorable little sisters. At 6, it really does a number on a child. What a blessing for Matt! e, more than most, the power of that one sentence Matt gave us in that interview. People who love unconditionally are the rarest commodity on this earth, and I salute his parents for being the people they are, and Matt for realizing all that they so freely gave to him.

The single most important thing my daughters have EVER said to me is that they both knew (and know) that they are loved unconditionally. The second was when my eldest told her friend that it needed to be understand that I am her closest relationship. I feel so honored and blessed, because single parents struggle to be all that we need to be, and of course, always wonder, but then, those amazing blessings called our children are indeed, the wind beneath our wings as we age, and need a bit more reassurance than we once did.

The generosity of their love - not to mention their spoiing and coddling their mother whenever possible - has given me the strength to survive life-threatening illnesses, and some life trials that no one should have to endure. They are amazing, and while I accepted mine "sight unseen", as well, it is, and has been, I who have been so abundantly blessed.

Thank you, Matt for honoring your parents and recognizing what they have always given you....love, stability, a soft place to fall, strength of character, but most of all, a loving and grateful heart. Congratulations and Blessings to you and yours.
