Reba wants to know if her ancestor treated his slaves well. What an absurd question. If you were a slave and your babies and young children were sold off to strangers never to be heard of again, what kind of treatment would be considered good? Whites never want to talk about the horrors of slavery or want to excuse or mitigate it. Americans . like their movies , need that feel good nonsense instead of reality. It is like what the narrator said-whites need to talk about this vile disgraceful part of American history. White descendants have benefitted from the ownership of other human beings. Like the white narrator said-acknowledgement must precede healing. We hear daily about the Holocaust; but slavery, Jim Crow, and today's racism is swept under the rug or as before with "Toby", our identity and history has been physically or psychologically beaten out of us.

One last fact-modern day sex slavery is rampant especially in Balkan countries by American whites and Europeans. Slavery by US residents who take advantage of newly arrived immigrants is a dirty secret. In wealthy Montgomery county, MD, the FBI arrested multiple slavers who did not pay the workers and held them hostage and sexually abused them. Welcome to America.
