Scotty McCreery to Play High School Baseball This Season

Scotty McCreery is a regular high school senior, despite his stint on Brad Paisley's Virtual Reality tour. As his time on the trek comes to a close, the North Carolina native is anticipating playing baseball for his school in Garner. However, winning 'American Idol,' touring the nation with country superstars and even singing the national anthem at Game 1 of the World Series didn't afford him any special treatment from his coach.

"Singing don't really mean you can really play ball well," he admits to ABC News Radio. "So, they had to see if I had a little something left in me."

The 'Trouble With Girls' singer doesn't think that will be the only challenge he'll face on the field. "I have a feeling it's gonna be rough," he admits. "I'm a pitcher, so I have a feeling when I get on the mound, guys are gonna be taunting me. I'm just gonna blow it off and strike 'em out!"

Unfortunately, Scotty has to miss the first few games of the season as he concludes his touring commitment, but he's happy that everyone is working with his schedule. "I enjoy high school, I enjoy being there with my friends and getting to hang out," he explains to BlogCritics.org. "But I also enjoy the music and getting out here with the fans and singing a lot. It's really cool for me to be able to do both. It's been a fairly nice balance with schoolwork and being on the road. We've made it work."

Although, he admits the people you're surrounded by are an important part of the puzzle. "It's really easy when you have somebody like Brad out here, who's just such a nice guy and makes you feel right at home," Scotty assures. "And the Band Perry, they've been great as well. It's been a fun tour to be on."

It's good that he's getting an early start on the academics juggling, since he plans on attending college in the fall. "That's going to be another monster," he tells Nashville's Tennessean newspaper. "But we're going to figure out a way to do [it]. It might take me 50 years to get a degree, but I want to get there and go to college."

The singer has already been accepted to East Carolina, with applications still out to North Carolina State, Belmont University and Middle Tennessee State University. "In the music business today, you'll be around and in a few months everybody forgets about you," he continues. "I want an education to lean back on."

Scotty's run on the Virtual Reality tour comes to an end March 3 in Lexington, Ky.

Scotty - good for you regarding your education - you have a good head on your shoulders. On the comments about the "Gong" Show, and you've already forgotten him ... that's your thing and you don't need to listen to his music or follow him. It's America. I'm not a big country fan, not normally my thing ... but I really liked him from the first time I heard him ... not just his music, but him as a person. What a sweet guy. I wish him all GOOD things coming his way in the future ... and certainly WOULD listen if/when I hear his music.

Don't be a grumpy old fart. This is a kid for cryin' out loud. His pants aren't around his ankles he hasn't gotten a 14 year old preggers and he is staying in school. He has no plans to shoot, rape or rob anybody and he plays baseball.

We have 13 year olds raping 5 year olds in the McPooPoo playground fer crissake. Other kids flinging shopping carts on innocent folks and blowing each others brains out in school cuz they have "issues". Lets call this kid a win. No matter how insipid these moronic "reality" contests are, if we can pump out a few more like this one I'll suffer the idiotic reality crap indefinitely.
