Elvis Presley, 'ICON': Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Graceland Team Up for New Exhibit

AP

From blinged-out rappers to country guitar slingers, Elvis Presley has influenced countless artists in numerous genres. In celebration of the King's power to inspire, Graceland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum have teamed up for a new exhibition, 'ICON: The Influence of Elvis Presley Presented by Fender.'

The exhibit opened March 1 at Graceland and features artifacts from numerous Presley devotees, among them Trisha Yearwood, Carrie Underwood, Wanda Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi and Ricky Nelson.

The display includes leather jackets, jumpsuits and Bono's "MacPhisto" suit from U2's Zooropa tour. Especially noteworthy is Amy Grant's contribution: a copy of the lyrics from 'Heartbreak Hotel' handwritten by the song's author, Mae Axton.

"The ink is fading on the page, but the special memory of spending time with one of the great writers who gave Elvis a song to sing never will," said Amy Grant, an avid Presley fan.

'ICON,' the third and largest exhibit to open at Graceland this year as part of celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of the King's death, runs through February 2013.
