According to the Nashville Business Journal, the North Carolina native alleges that these vendors are traveling from show to show, selling their 'Eric Church' merchandise, and then "quickly hide or discard infringing goods and walk or run away," when approached by one of the singer's employees.
The court documents, which were filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, maintain the vendors' illegal practice will result in a huge financial loss for the 'Springsteen' singer.
"Without a federal court order authorizing the seizure of infringing goods at and near ... 2012 tour concert locations, [Eric Church] will lose innumerable and irrecoverable sums in merchandise sales and will suffer incalculable, irreparable damage to his reputation and goodwill," the lawsuit states.
Eric is seeking both compensatory and punitive damages, as well as a permanent injunction prohibiting the manufacturing, marketing and sale of counterfeit merchandise.
This is not the first trouble the married father of one has encountered since launching his headlining tour in January. He has also battled ticket scalpers, who purchase his tickets at an affordable price, and then bump up the price for their own personal profit. But the tunesmith maintains the rewards still outweigh the headaches.
"I was blown away," Eric admitted to ABC News Radio about his rapid ticket sales. "We're going to sell most of these rooms out. We didn't think that was gonna happen. We just hoped we'd make a good showing."
Eric's tour, which includes Brantley Gilbert as his opening act, takes him to Binghampton, N.Y. tonight (March 15), followed by stops in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Florida. See his complete tour schedule here.
Eric is now on his Blood, Sweat and Beers tour in support of 'Chief.' "Somebody asked me what I was more of -- I would said beer, then it would be sweat, then there was a lot of blood," he tells the Associated Press with a laugh. "There's been some blood along the way. I think it's fitting for the kind of tour it's going to be. It's going to be very in your face like the rest of our stuff. Probably, some parental guidance will be needed. That's OK. It's the kind of show we've always put on, and the kind of show I enjoy."
