According to the Daily Progress newspaper, Mineral Mayor Pamela Harlowe has announced that the concert has been scheduled for May 20 and will take place in the parking lot behind the town library. The mayor also said that opening bands will play from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, after which the award-winning superstar will take the stage. While other details are yet to be announced, the mayor stated that the date was announced so that those wishing to attend could begin making plans.
Numerous schools and other buildings were damaged in the August quake. Mineral received more than 31,000 votes in the competition, which was sponsored by eventful.com. Kansas City took second place in the voting, while Minot, N.D., placed third.
Mineral's vice mayor, Bernice Wilson-Kube, is a longtime fan of Alan's music, and according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, she played his music at both of her parents' funerals.
