The singer-songwriter is juggling 'Dancing' with his current tour, which includes several shows with country star David Nail. Gavin is thrilled to share the stage with the 'Let It Rain' singer. "It's funny, I was just online watching him," he explains to CMT of discovering David's talent. "He was doing a performance of a song I put out years back called 'I Don't Wanna Be,' and I was like, 'Wow, man. He is killing that.' He's a really good singer, and that's the biggest compliment you can get as a songwriter is to have somebody sing your tune."
The admiration is mutual. "I'm a huge fan," David says of Gavin (quote via Billboard). "I remember buying his first record at what was Tower [Records] in Nashville. I told myself that it would always be a thrill and honor to go out on tour with someone like that. From following Gavin, it seems like he has a strong appreciation for Nashville and our format."
In fact, Gavin recently made the move to Nashville, which the New York native says has been a relatively easy transition. "What surprised me most was the amount of night life," admits Gavin, who opened his own restaurant and music venue in Music City. "You're there to have a good time, and those people know how to have a good time. It's something that exists culturally in Nashville. People like good musicians playing good songs."
So with the move to Nashville, is there a move to country music in the works? "I hope so," Gavin reveals. "I've got a song that I wrote for this album that I think is really the type of song that has that potential to go in both directions. It's a song called 'Soldier,' and I really feel strongly that it could be received in that world. This tour is an opportunity for David and I to share audiences because he and I see through the different styles of music. We just like what we think is good."
In addition to dancing with his fellow stars, Gavin will also play several shows over the next few weeks, including a stop in Austin, Texas tonight (March 20). See his tour schedule here.
