Neil Young, 'Americana' Album With Crazy Horse Due in June

Neil Young is reuniting with his iconic band, Crazy Horse, for their first album in nearly nine years, putting their unique musical stamp on songs we all know and love. 'Americana,' due out June 5, collects American folk songs, some, such as 'Tom Dula' (a/k/a 'Tom Dooley') and 'Oh Susannah,' going all the way back to the 1800s. The album also includes 'Get a Job,' recorded by the Silhouettes in 1957, and representing the rebellious nature of early rock 'n roll.

According to a press release accompanying the album, Neil says the songs selected "reflect the same concerns and are still remarkably meaningful to a society going through economic and cultural upheaval, especially during an election year. They are just as poignant and powerful today as the day they were written."

Of special significance is the album's closing track, 'God Save the Queen.' In the 'Americana' liner notes, Neil writes that the song "has been sung throughout the British Commonwealth and may have been sung in North America before the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which rejected British sovereignty."

Spinner reports that 'Americana' is the first album Neil has recorded with the band since 2003's 'Greendale' and marks the first time the complete line-up of Billy Talbot, Frank 'Poncho' Sampedro and Ralph Molina have worked together since 1996's 'Broken Arrow.'
