Jason Aldean Hopes ACM Awards Erase Negative Stereotypes

Jason Aldean is selling out arenas and amphitheaters all over the United States on his My Kinda Party tour, but the Georgia native says it's still an uphill battle to be a successful country artist.

"Country music still kind of fights the stereotypes a lot of times," acknowledges the singer (quote via CMT). But Jason is quick to add that he hopes that shows like this weekend's ACM Awards in Las Vegas help dispel the negative perception music fans have of the genre.

"We're having a country music show, and it's in one of the glitziest cities in the world, so it just shows you that we're not still sitting on hay bales passing out awards at these shows," the entertainer points out. "It's a big deal."

The 'Fly Over States' singer lands at Sunday's ceremony with half a dozen nominations, including the coveted Entertainer of the Year. And while he'd be thrilled to win a trophy, he insists it is an honor just to be nominated.

"It's cool to be noticed in just one of those categories," says the multiple nominee who will also perform on the awards telecast. "And then when you walk away from there and you have six nominations? It's a good feeling. It makes you excited to wanna go to the show. It's a completely different experience when you're heading out to Vegas and you know that you're up for that many awards."

Jason admits he has taken cues from a fellow Entertainer of the Year nominee as he amps up his career. "I look at guys like Kenny [Chesney]," Jason tells The Boot. "He was selling out arenas, so he moved into stadiums. You can't rush that move; you can't predict it. You just know when it's time. We knew it was time to move out of little theaters and into arenas, because our tickets were starting to sell out. I remember when Kenny started going in and selling out two nights at a place. We are starting to do that now. I bring Kenny up because I think he's had the biggest tour around for a long time. If you're gonna pattern your touring career after someone, he's the guy."

The 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 1 at 8:00 PM ET on CBS.

Great performances on the ACM awards! Would've loved to see a performance by Casey James though...his new album is fantastic! http://bit.ly/GAxiJE

***** CORRECTION FOR 'PAMELA' :
No....you are definitely WRONG.
You are uneducated as well as ignorant to parallel "stereotype" with the way in which one dresses. What planet are you on?
The country music artists that are (so deservingly) up for these extraordinary awards are no different from any other artist in any other genre in the same position. Country music artists have as much talent and perserverance for perfection as any classical, rock-n-roll, opera, jazz etc. artist out there.
You have obviously lived a very sheltered life ; hence your highly erroneous and prejudicial perception. I feel very sorry for you and those around you.

If Jason wants to change the country artists stereotypes then maybe he should take a look at how he looks. He merely perpetuates that stereotype.

I have seen Kenny. It was the biggest drunken, vomit fest I have ever witnessed. Yeah, it's great to buy one ticket and see many artists. But in a stadium even the 'good seats' aren't good. They are wide open, impersonal, sound is lost in the vastness of it, and honestly people have a hard time paying attention because the size of the place makes it hard totally be immersed in the performance! Not to mention Kenny being sponsored by an alcohol company... there was puking, drunk obnoxious people every, boyfriends and girlfriends fighting. Not my idea of a good time. Sure, it's an ego boost for the artist to say.. look at how many tickets I can sell in one shot... but give me an arena show any day of the week over a stadium!! I will no longer even consider a stadium show, even if it was a favorite artist of mine. I was sad to see Paisley go that route and hope Aldean would reconsider his ambition.

I agree with Harriet. Garth is the one who anyone should look to for a successful tour as he makes it possible for ANYONE to come see his shows. I can't afford to see many of the artists nowadays because of the cost and I used to take my young children with me to see concerts. I can still afford to take my family to see Garth due to the cost. Mark my words all the young ones will need to re think their ticket prices in 2014 when he comes back as well as the souvenir prices. Only concert I've been able to afford in the last several years has been Garth in Nashville and Kansas City and then the local fairs that are less than $10. think about the economy.

WRONG!! If you're gonna pattern your career on anyone, it should be Garth Brooks. He has never gone "stadium" even though he could sell them out a million times over because he cares about the music and his fans. What can you see at a stadium? A giant screen? And pay a gazilion bucks a ticket for the priviledge? Garth would rather park himself in one city for a week and charge decent ticket prices so he can give the most fans a chance to see him for the cheapest price possible. Stadium shows are a rip-off but they get a performer in and out of a city quickly, with no regard to how many people get shut out, or how much they have to pay, even for the cheap seats... Gatrth's seats are all one price, from first row to last... Just wait till he comes back out on the road in 2014. There will be none that can match him and he will set records all over again!
