Alan Jackson 'Precious Memories' Re-Released for Fans ... and Mom

Amazon

Alan Jackson took a step back from his typical country albums in 2006 to record 'Precious Memories,' a CD of gospel tunes. Now, six years later, the singer-songwriter has re-released the set of hymns as a way to make the album still available to his fans.

"When I was at Sony ... we did a co-deal together where it was on half my label and half theirs," Alan explains to The Boot. "I ended up with the rights to the album, basically. So when the deal ran out, they didn't produce any more records, so you couldn't buy any more. And we just had so many people still wanting it, it's just amazing. That thing just sold and sold. So when I got over here [at Capitol EMI] we decided that we'd put it back out."

The Georgia native hints that he may record a similar collection of songs in the near future. "I still want to do another one," he reveals. "My mama, she's getting pretty elderly and doesn't get out much, but I'd still like to do another version of that for her, and especially my wife's mama. She's older than my mother but she gets around better, and she loves that thing. And they would love to have another version with some more new songs, so I need to do that. It doesn't take more than a minute to record it, it's so simple."

For now, the multi-platinum-selling singer is putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album. The debut single from the new CD, 'So You Don't Have to Love Me Anymore,' is already in the Top 40 and climbing. Alan will also head out next month for a series of shows, including stops in New Mexico, Colorado and Florida. See his complete tour schedule here.

I like Alan Jckson and his music. He seems like a sweet, generous man. I hope Faith Hill puts out a new gospel album. She is one of the best vocalists in country music. She put some gospel songs on her cds and she sang Gospel songs on Oprah's show awhile ago. She is a true country icon. No one can ever compare to Faith's beauty, grace, elegance and talent!

I have Alan's album and I love it. I wish Carrie Underwood would do a gospel album in the future. She sings gospel with such emotion that it pulls you into the lyrics and the melody. Carrie and Vince Gill's duet of ' HOW GREAT THOU ART" is one of the best gospel song by an artist that I can recall. It has over 12 million views and many say they start the day and end the day with the song as it gives them strength and is sung by an angel with God given vocals. I concur completely.
