"I've often said that the best course of education for a young person wanting to pursue country music is to go to college at Belmont," Brad notes in a statement on the university's website. "I speak from experience. I wouldn't be in any position to offer a scholarship if I had not gone to Belmont -- this is the least I can do in appreciation."
During his Belmont career, Brad was the recipient of a scholarship supported by his future Grand Ole Opry castmate Vince Gill. In 2003, Brad received Belmont's Distinguished Alumni Award. Trisha Yearwood, Josh Turner, Lee Ann Womack, Sarah Buxton and Julie Roberts are among the school's other well-known alumni. Sarah Cannon, a/k/a Minnie Pearl was a graduate of the school's predecessor, Ward-Belmont College.
