Ashton Kutcher, ACM Awards: Country Friend or Foe?

In The Boot's ACM Awards Worst Dressed gallery, we called out Ashton Kutcher for poking fun at country music with his ridiculous outfit. But were we being too hard on the 'Two and a Half Men' star?

Aside from his over-the-top country couture and random wingmen drinking beer on stage, Ashton didn't necessarily say anything offensive about the genre. After "preemptively" congratulating the winner of the ACM's Top Female Vocalist award, he offered a serenade for the four ladies who were about to be defeated, singing a few lines of George Strait's 'I Cross My Heart.' And -- don't shoot us for saying this -- he sounded pretty good! (Watch his ACM presentation below and judge for yourself.)

Seems Miranda Lambert, who accepted the Top Female Vocalist honors from Ashton, is right there with us in our confusion over the actor's intentions. "Was Ashton Kutcher making fun of country or is it just me?" she tweeted today (April 3). "Watching it back now and I'm kinda wondering."

Ashton responded just a few hours later. "@Miranda_Lambert I Am One Of The biggest country Music fans you've ever met. Wasn't making fun at all," he tweeted, following with another post: "@Miranda_Lambert btw congratulations again."

Perhaps Miranda will now give him the benefit of the doubt, but one of her former tourmates is a lot more skeptical.

"Seen Ashton kutcher at the acms tonight. What a douche! I don't care for people making a mockery of the way country artists' dress," tweeted Justin Moore. (Let's hope Ashton doesn't make fun of country artists' grammar either ... No offense, Justin.)

Maybe we should just go by what we "seen" backstage at the show: Ashton hanging out with Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, Jake Owen and Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts ... and acting like an excited fan.

I'm not sure what I think of the Ashton scene. Yes he was dressed country....but hell maybe he is going to start singing country music too! Maybe him and Lionel can get together! One thing he did say was true......Most country singers always give their band credit too....which is something a lot of other singers do not do when getting an award. It's usually all about them selves. As far as the beer in his hand thing...most of the tour sponsors for country music are beer and liquor companies......it's a known fact that ALOT of country fans & musicians drink. I have seen Hank Jr so drunk on stage that he could NOT even sing his own songs. Seems to me like Kid Rock hosted a country awards show and had a drink in his hand the whole time. And nobody said anything when Toby Keith walked down the red carpet with his "red solo cup" in hand. Or came out singing with it in his hand. My lord that stupid song went to number one for him. Come on y'all we all have a right to our opinion........I think Blake's joke about Randy Travis and drinking was a little much. That might have just as easily been him in those shoes........oops that police car! I'm just glad no one saw my tweet about being shocked that Miranda had her boobs covered for once! Kudos to Reba and Martina for always looking classy!

I didn't watch the show, but I saw the clip yesterday. I thought he did a good job singing acapella, and I think the hat, coat, and beltbuckle become him more than the "scruffy" look he has sported in the last year and the haircut he has been sporting the last few months since he "cleaned up a bit" (the bangs look like he's stuck in a time warp from his teenage adolescent and teenage years). I didn't care for what you refer to as the "wingman" drinking on stage (it was totally out of place). If he were sincere, I think he did a good job, if he WERE poking fun-- I know he could spend more on an outfit to do so than I make in a year and never miss it, I say "shame on you." (I would love to be able to sing without accompanyment as well as he did. I would gladly get up at church and sing every time I was there if I could) and as for the outfit, I have nowhere to go wearing a hat and coat like that, but if I had them, I might find SOMEWHERE to take my wife where the clothes were not out of place.

Miranda seems to open her mouth a lot AFTER award shows when she is tucked safe and sound away from anyone she talks trash about.I think she simply likes the attention. And didn't her tool box, er, I mean her husband sing Footloose on the last awards show and another cheesey 80's POP song with Linoel Richie on this awards show? Talk about making fun of country music..As far as what the new *cough cough* 'outlaw' Moore said, that's pretty much pot calling the kettle thing

In fact, the entire show was making fun of country music. It was like watching a 3 hr SNL special. If anything Ashton was the only person who SUNG a country music song!!! .. Oh,and great 60 second mention of Earl Scruggs there ACM's .Good Lord,we would never want to miss out on Luke Bryan's " git yer hands in the air' dance performance to give one of the pioneers a worthy tribute.

Are you high? Miranda is just asking a question that many people on twitter and at home where asking. Ashton came out in an over the top crazy outfit and sang a song about how true his love is, after he just left his wife. It did seem a little off to many. Miranda doesn't need the attention, she gets plenty from her TALENT! I for one like that Miranda has opinions ans isn't afraid to express them. Luv Miranda!

Not high at all.Just think there are far worse things to complain about in today's country music than a comedic actor doing a 2 minute bit at an awards show that gave even less time than that to Earl Scruggs. And yes, this is 2 award shows in a row that Miranda has popped something off about someone afterwards, which is also what a a lot of people are talking about today on the internet.Check out the over 6000 comments on the yahoo blog about that subject if you don't believe me.
