According to Billboard, after just one day of airplay (April 2) the song has more than 900 plays, reaching an audience of 7.9 million listeners, making it the top song on the chart. Granted, things could change drastically before the chart is published next Monday (April 9), as momentum from the awards show lessens.
However, if the song does debut at No. 1, it will be only the second to do so since the trade publication adopted Nielsen BDS data the week of Jan. 20, 1990. The first? Garth Brooks' 'More Than a Memory,' which premiered the week of Sept. 15, 2007. Coincidentally, that tune was co-written by Lee Brice, whose 'A Woman Like You' is sitting in the second spot, behind 'Feel Like a Rock Star,' on next week's chart.
Billboard notes that all but three songs currently in the Top 25 have been on the chart for more than 10 weeks. Although, Kenny does have a good track history with Top 25 debuts. 'Don't Blink' bowed at No. 16 and 'The Boys of Fall' at 17.
More good news for the Brothers of the Sun tourmates comes in the form of sales. The magazine cites "industry sources" who say 'Feel Like a Rock Star' could sell approximately 50,000 downloads this week.
The two friends are now preparing for the June 2 kick off of their Brothers of the Sun tour in Tampa, Fla. It's likely fans will get to see pair perform the song live, as Kenny promises to play at least three songs from his upcoming 'Welcome to the Fishbowl' album at each show.
"I try to fill my sets full of songs that everybody lives with every day," says the superstar. "To play a new song in a stadium, you might lose people. They might tune out for three minutes. But I'm at a point in my life where I want to play them new music. I want them to know we might do 'Fishbowl' and a couple more."
