Taylor Swift to Play Joni Mitchell in 'Girls Like Us' Film?

Taylor Swift is reportedly being considered to portray music legend Joni Mitchell in "Girls Like Us," the big-screen adaptation of the book by Shelia Weller, which examines the life of the "Both Sides Now" writer, along with fellow singer-songwriters Carole King and Carly Simon.

Variety reports that although Taylor does not have an official offer on the table, she has been linked to the role of the Canadian-born performer for several months as other actresses have auditioned to play the other two leads in the film. "House" executive producer Katie Jacobs, who optioned the book several years ago, is directing from a script by John Sayles. While not officially "greenlit" yet, the film is tentatively scheduled to start production later this year when the three leads would be available for filming.

Earlier this year, Taylor was rumored to be joining the cast in the big-screen adaptation of "Les Miserable," although the role of Eponine ultimately went to Samantha Barks. Taylor made her film debut in 2010's "Valentine's Day" and voiced the part of Audrey in this year's "The Lorax," based on a story by Dr. Seuss.

The globally-recognized entertainer has expressed an interest in more film work and says she spends much of her time off reading scripts. But for the 22-year-old, there's more to the process than just being offered a role.

"Acting is something I've been fascinated by my entire life," Taylor tells MTV, adding that she would have to have the right part to consider taking a hiatus from her music career. "I would want to have the time, the ability and the love for something, the love for a character to where I could really make that commitment to it."

Regardless of when we'll next see Taylor on the big screen, she can currently be heard on the soundtrack to the blockbuster film, "The Hunger Games."

Have u met with people confused with their age gap problem ?do you agree with their relationship? As for me ,Love is love, you do not choose who you fall in love with !! if they have 20 happy years together, is it not better than a couple having 40 miserable years together in a so called normal relationship.AGE GAP is no longer a problem.~~- Agedate.com~~ a nice place for younger women and oldermen, or older women and younger men, to interact with each other! , BTW,Ever feel that you would best enjoy someone who is not in your age group? If u are really interested in it, maybe u wanna check it out or tell your friends.'

Taylor, please take the role. You would be so great. I was and still am a huge fan of Joni Mitchell and you could do that role justice. Make the time. This lady is a legend along with Carole King and Carly Simon. This was the greatest era of music ever.

I loved and lived through those days and while Taylor is about as far away from those tulmous (s) times as one could imagine, I have a lot of respect for her as an actress, singer and person. Now, let's have some movies on the great Joan Baez.

Absolutely. I love Joan Baez. As I said in another post this was the greatest era of music. You just don't get any better. I do however think Taylor could pull this off. She has a great voice and someone should consider doing something about Joan Baez. If more movies were made about the times we lived in and the music more young people would know we were not just a bunch of druggies. Politics was a big concern to young people then unlike today when they are just willing to accept what they get instead of doing the right thing and fighting for the right thing. A lot of our music was based on these things. My son just thinks I was a hippie back then. Most people think strictly of "Woodstock" as our lives when it was so much more.

She's not acting. She CAN sing. I am more of a rock and roll person but I can appreciate talent from all genre's.

I do have to agree with you on L. Lohan cast as Elizabeth Taylor. That is an insult to Ms. Taylor.

How's she going to do that? Joni Mitchell could sing! And if Taylor's acting isn't any better than her singing, not sure I could sit through it. Of course she wouldn't be singing live in the movie.....with enough editing, they can make nearly anyone sound good. Oh well, make a buck while you can.
