Carrie Underwood proves once again she could be a supermodel as a second career, gracing the cover of Glamour magazine's May issue with her gorgeous face and figure. The country superstar wears everything from a football jersey to a 1950s-inspired spring dress in the mag's colorful photo spread, complimented by a candid interview.
Carrie, who is the most successful "American Idol" alum to date, tells Glamour that being rich and famous doesn't hurt the authenticity of her songs. "It would be very hard to write about my Louboutins ... my giant house, it's not relatable," she says. "But my husband came from a small town and hardworking parents like I did, and I don't think we've lost that mind-set. We don't have a bowling alley in our basement. We don't have houses on the beach and one in New York and one in L.A. I drive a 3-year-old Ford Escape Hybrid. We don't care about stuff like that."
Carrie's husband, Nashville Predators (and former Ottawa Senators) player Mike Fisher, is also unaffected by his wife's celebrity status. "He knew what to expect," the singer explains. "In Canada he was a big celebrity, so he knows what it's like living under a microscope. And he travels a lot, which is good for both of us. We're both independent people."
Carrie's travels are about to rival her hockey-playing husband's. With her new album, Blown Away, in stores today (May 1), she is planning a huge tour in support of the project. The Blown Away Tour kicks off later this month and runs through December. (See a full list of cities and dates here.) The singer's whirlwind schedule means the couple, who will celebrate two years of marriage this July, will be missing each other a lot this year. But Carrie's security in her relationship remains in tact ... something she admits to never having before Mike.
"Any guy I've ever dated, there would always be that doubt: 'He didn't answer his phone. What's he doing? It's late.' I'm not the crazy-girlfriend type, but there was a little voice in the back of my head," she tells Glamour. "I don't have to worry about Mike. I don't think twice. He's going out? I don't care; it doesn't bother me. I don't bat an eye."
Critics are already raving about Blown Away, particularly concerning the growth Carrie has proven as a songwriter on the project. While the country sweetheart maintains a squeaky-clean image, her lyrics dig deeper and darker than ever.
"We kill a couple people," laughs the singer-songwriter. "It wouldn't be a Carrie Underwood album without a revenge song on it. People really like when I do that. I don't mean to. I don't hate men that much. But it turns out so well!"
