Carrie Underwood on 'Ellen': Country Star Talks Home Life With Hockey Hubby

The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Carrie Underwood is the latest country music celebrity to visit the set of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," where she reports that her marriage (to professional hockey player Mike Fisher) has seen one significant improvement since the last time she sat down with the talk show host.

"I might have gotten into a wee bit of trouble," the "Good Girl" singer recalls of her previous visit with Ellen, when she famously labeled her husband a 'hoarder.' "I had my closet full of my stuff, and he's there with his stuff. Now we share. We're much better. I'm not the only-child syndrome thing, like I don't share my toys and my space. I'm better!"

The Oklahoma native, who recently switched from a vegetarian to a vegan diet, reveals her healthy eating is rubbing off on her carnivorous spouse. "He's actually getting better," Mrs. Fisher reports. "I'll offer to make him something I'm making myself, and he'll say sure."

The former "American Idol" winner will soon kick off her global Blown Away tour, but she still plans to work on her culinary skills. "I definitely try," Carrie promises. "I want to be that mom someday that's like, 'My mom makes the best fill-in-the-blank.' I would love to be that, so I'm working on it."

After Carrie gushed about her groom on the show, Ellen presented her with a custom-made gift: a pair of footed pajamas representing her husband's team, the Nashville Predators, complete with his name and hockey number on the back. The timing of the present is providential, since the singer-songwriter will hit the road without her husband later this month. However, she insists they're not worried about the prolonged separation.

"Everything we are at this very moment is a culmination of everything that we've done in our entire lives," Carrie tells The Boot. "You never know what curve balls life is going to throw you and there's no way I can predict anything or make any assumptions about what the rest of my life is going to be like. My husband and I both live pretty unpredictable careers, so I don't know. I'll take it one step at a time and after this album comes out, we'll go on tour and figure out what's next."

Carrie's latest album, Blown Away, debuted today (May 9) at the top of both the country and all-genre charts. She will kick off her tour on May 26 in Baton Rouge, La. See her concert schedule here.

Congrats on spreading the word of compassion, Carrie. It's obvious she has love for her husband, if she is trying to convince him of the benefits of a vegan diet. Especially if they want to spend their lives together-- Going vegetarian is one of the best actions we can take to improve our health. According to the American Dietetic Association, vegetarians are reported to have lower body mass indices than non-vegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer.
