On Tuesday night (May 22), during the first of two hometown shows at James Brown Arena in Augusta, Ga, Lady Antebellum had an unscheduled musical guest show up on stage. In the middle of the group's set, the Lakeside High School marching band appeared behind them to play the trio's smash hit, "We Owned the Night." Lakeside High School in Evans, Ga., is the alma mater of Lady A's Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley (as well as Charles' brother, Josh Kelley). (Watch the video below.)
"Our show is so dialed in after all these months of touring that it takes a lot to surprise us," acknowledges Dave. "A full marching band did it though! It was incredible ... I'm sure we had a 'deer in the headlights' look."
The hometown surprise was part of a celebration of the threesome's popular Webisode Wednesday videos, and was captured to mark their 200th in the series.
"I can't believe we're at 200 webisodes already!" notes Dave. "We have so much fun making them with Adam Boatman, who puts them together for us each week. He really deserves all the credit."
Since the Lady A webisodes debuted, the trio has parodied Blake Shelton, shared a Christmas-themed bedtime story and even let fans in on a recent songwriting session. To date, the webisodes have tallied more than 3.7 million views, becoming one part of the group's more than 9.7 million combined active profiles on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social-media outlets.
The marching band surprise is getting to be a popular trend. Earlier this year, Lady A's Capitol Nashville label mate, Keith Urban, dispatched the Father Ryan High School band to play an unannounced performance at the record label's offices.
