The Big Apple will get a touch of country later this month, when Kenny Rogers and Emmylou Harris head to New York City to attend the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner. The event, slated for June 14, will include appearances or performances by Lyle Lovett, Meatloaf, Take 6, Stevie Nicks, Broadway and TV star Cheyenne Jackson and the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl.

Don Schlitz, who penned Kenny Rogers' pop-country hit, "The Gambler," is among this year's inductees. He is joined by Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Seger, Jim Steinman and the writing team of Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones (not to be confused with the Welsh singer).

In addition, Ne-Yo will receive the Hal David Starlight Award, and Bette Midler will receive the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award. "Stand by Me" will receive the Towering Song award, with the tune's writer Ben E. King taking home the Towering Performance Award. Woody Guthrie, whose iconic folk tunes include "This Land is Your Land," will be posthumously awarded the first Pioneer Award.

Tickets for the event begin at $1,000, and can be purchased by calling (212) 573-6933. Proceeds benefit the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Emmelou Harris is one of my all time favorite country/ folk singer songwriters. She's become a total icon and has a real life message as well as making great music. She embodies what creating music should be about, saying something that matters with both your life and your music

Glad to see Don Schlitz inducted. He's written so many great songs and his 2010 album "Alergic to Crazy" is outstanding.
