"Here I am as June in my trailer with her blue eyes and perfect teeth," Jewel tweeted today (June 5), along with this photo.
Jewel is playing the lead role in "Ring of Fire," a Lifetime original movie that will also star Frances Conroy ("Six Feet Under") as June's mother, Maybelle Carter, and Matt Ross ("American Horror Story") as Johnny Cash.
"Ring of Fire" is based on June's son John Carter Cash's book, Anchored in Love: An Intimate Portrait of June Carter Cash. It follows June from her early childhood in the rural mountains of Virginia through her rise to fame with the Carter Sisters (played in the movie by Grammy-winning sibling group, the Peasall Sisters). It also takes an intimate look at her first two marriages and her tumultuous, yet storybook romance with the American treasure who would become her third husband, Johnny Cash.
"Many people know about the legendary love story of Johnny and June," says Lifetime executive Rob Sharenow. "But June Carter Cash has her own epic journey filled with triumphs, tragedies, loves and losses. This movie will explore all aspects of the woman behind the icon, and we're thrilled Jewel will be playing the title role."
There's no word yet on when "Ring of Fire" will air on Lifetime.
