Sheryl Crow, Brain Tumor: Singer Reveals Memory Problems Due to Benign Growth

Bryan Steffy, WireImage

If you've seen Sheryl Crow in concert lately, she may have forgotten the lyrics to hit or two, and then laughed it off. But the songstress has revealed that her recent memory loss is the product of a medical condition. Although, the songstress -- who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 -- promises, it's nothing to get worked up about.

"I haven't really talked about it," she revealed to the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper. "In November, I found out I have a brain tumor. But it's benign, so I don't have to worry about it. But it gives me a fit."

The 'fit' to which Sheryl is referring comes in the form of memory problems. The article cites an instance at a concert nearly a month ago in Florida, where she forgot part of her classic hit, "Soak Up the Sun." She brushed it off and told concert goers, "I'm 50, what can I say? My brain's gone to (expletive)."

Such cognitive issues are actually what prompted Sheryl, who's been cancer-free for more than five years, to seek medical help. "I worried about my memory so much that I went and got an MRI," the songstress recalls. "I found out I have a brain tumor, and I was like, 'See? I knew there was something wrong.'"

More than six months later, the tumor hasn't had much effect on her life. She's still performing five to six times a month, and even working on a new album, which is slated for an October release.

"I don't even have a record deal," Sheryl admitted, before adding, "I probably will sign a record deal, though. I like the opportunity to be on radio."

What bothers me about Sheryl acting like this is no BIg Deal is that as a brain tumor person myself that had a meningioma. THIS iS a REAL BIG DEAL. A tumor in your brain is a TUMOR in your brain. And she is not raising awareness by doing this she is making it seem like she broke her arm and it is going to go away. WOW this does not help our cause at all. Thanks Sheryl......

This article has it's facts mixed up. She went to the doctor for some memory issues. An MRI revealed a meningioma, which doesn't cause memory problems. Her memory issues are from being 50 and premenopausau/menopausal.

Sounds like Sheryl has a pituiary tumor. I, if asked ) lol, would advise her to find the best brain surgeon in town adn have it removed, IF it is a pituitary tumor.

You see, the pituitary, due to it's location pretty much right behind the eyes means that, while not malignant, is involved with the optic nerve and getting it all is very difficult, without damaging the optic nerve, causing blindness.

So, the upshot is fionding a very anal sureon, who has the patiience and skill to do this surgery very, very carefully.

Another issue is that the pituitary gland is the master gland, telling all other glands what, when and how much of a particular substance to release. To replalace all those substances, correctly, as the pituitary would order, is nearly impossible. The follow up is the worst part of the condition of not having the pituitary.

One lives with about a 24" in diameter tray full of these substances to replace what the pituitary shouild be doing based upon the condition of the body at any given time. Tricky.

My Father after years on these substances rom a bottle, finally passed away. So malignant or not gret care needs be taken in deciding just what to do, and when to do it.

Good Lucj Sheryl. I am a big fan.

She said it was a meningioma, not a pituitary tumor.

I also had a meningioma back in 2000. Mine was the size of a man's fist. We operated on it at Mayo Clinic. It has limited my participation in many activities, but, Someone upstairs allowed me to survive it and carry on a somewhat normal life. I would recommend Mayo Clinic to be checked out for your best interest. If you need names, I would be more than happy to give you some. My prayers are with you and please continue to do your outstanding job of entertaining many people.

Hi Sheryl:
I had a brain tumor which was removed in surgery; a couple of years later I had a malignant one, which was not removable; then I went to a great Acupuncturist here in Miami Beach, and after 3 months the tumor had DISSAPEARED!
It made me a true believer in Acupuncture.

Uh-huh. Somehow I don't think I'm going to trust someone named "Colonicby ReGina" with regards to a testimonial about medical conditions and cures. As for your URL, yes I do suspect you're full of it...

If I had a brain tumor,I'd be forgetting more than words to a song.I'd be too concerned to think straight.I would surely be concerned about my kids and their future and safety. If it can come out it would be out tomorrow.Good Luck.

You're just plain stupid. By reveal she means she is letting the public know. Not reveal in the way you indicated that she remove her scalp an reveal what part of her brain contained the tumor. Maybe you were trying to be flippant, but it was in bad taste

Someone else already explained it, but it is QUITE common useage to say that someone reveals something like a brain tumor when telling people about a medical condition. Either you ARE trolling, or you're just clueless.
