Willie Nelson Golf Tournament to Benefit Four Texas Charities

Did you know that Willie Nelson is an avid golfer and even owns his own golf course? The country icon is now using his favorite sport for a great cause, hosting the first annual Willie Nelson Celebrity Golf Tournament on June 30 in Briarcliff, Texas, to benefit four local charities.

Several different golfing events will be held that day. It starts with a round of speed golf, followed by two separate shotgun Willie 9-hole scramble rounds. Each of the scramble teams will contain six golfers, rather than the customary four.

If golf, even in these abbreviated forms, isn't your thing, there's still plenty to do at the event. Guests will enjoy music from BMI Songwriter of the Year Sonny Throckmorton, as well as surprise guests, and the day will conclude with a "Night Life Golf" game in which benefactors will shoot glow-in-the-dark balls for prizes.

Participants will also be able to bid on various Willie memorabilia as well as other "priceless items and experiences" throughout the day as part of a silent auction.

The event benefits the Pedernales Fire Department, the Helping Hands Crisis Ministry, the Children's Music Foundation and the RunTex Foundation. Attendees are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the Helping Hands Crisis Ministry's food bank.
