"I wrote the song about the division in our country right now," Kurt explains to The Boot. "We are so fortunate to live in the greatest country on Earth, but we have a responsibility to work together to keep it that way. We have to quit pointing fingers at the other guy and quit digging in and refusing to work together. Quit looking for the cheapest way to manufacture things and think about what we were founded on: American pride, American ideals."
The video was shot last February at the Barber Shop Bar in Dripping Springs, Texas, just a few miles from Kurt's home and studio. The building was formerly a garage and gas station, then a barber shop while Dripping Springs was a dry community. The Barber Shop Bar opened in 2011, following a 2002 ordinance that allowed liquor within the city limits.
"It's where the community gathers to drink beer, play darts and unwind after a long day of work in the Texas heat," says Kurt. "It seemed the perfect place to shoot the video about a hard working American."
