Blake Shelton: 'The Voice' Third Season Is 'Too Much' Too Soon

Jon Kopaloff, FilmMagic

Blake Shelton will once again be part of NBC's "The Voice," when the show returns for its third season later this year. The country superstar says he and his fellow mentors have agreed to return, but he's urging network executives to consider the ramifications of doing two seasons a year, since taping a third season so soon after the second puts a serious crimp in the tour schedules of himself, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green.

"At some point something's got to give," Blake said during a press conference at last week's CMA Music Festival. "I've been very vocal with the network and Mark Burnett's production company that I don't like it. They need to think about what the [taping schedule] means to all of us."

"The Voice" will begin taping again soon, so Blake will head for the West Coast while his wife, Miranda Lambert, continues to tour.

"I love doing it," Blake explained, "and I hope to continue doing it forever. But they have to work with me so I can also tour. I just think taping two seasons a year is too much. The four of us cannot remain viable artists if we're taping back-to-back seasons of the show."

In spite of the challenge, Blake says he's committed to the upcoming season. "I look forward to it and I love doing it. I can't imagine not being a part of 'The Voice.'"

Blake's latest single, "Over," is at No. 19 on Billboard's Country Songs chart this week, marking its first week in the Top 20. It's the fourth single from Red River Blue.

Blake is right and while he loves mentoring he does have other aspects of his life he needs time for. One season is enough and all the producers are going to do is burn everyone out including the audience. the only part i liked was watching the chairs turn around and the expressions on the faces when a contestant was faced with multiple choices of a mentor. after that it was downhill the whole way for me. I don't even watch it now but will turn on any program that has blake, celo, or adam on it for interviews. Blake and Adam seem to be out to just have fun adn if they step on toes oh well, touch luck folks.

They could have 2 sets of judges and rotate them from taping season to taping season than no one would get burned out, the judges could do their touring durning their off season and it could make the show more interesting for all!

Think it has anything to do with the most money is made touring versus the studio or a tv show?

Blake Shelton is one of the best male vocalists in country music today. Anyone who thinks different needs to get their ears checked. Not to mention he is totally gorgeous, funny and has the greatest personality. He deserves all his success. Miranda is so lucky to have him. Oh and since Brtineys latest CD debuted at # 1 and she had a # 1 single,a Top 5 and a Top 10 I would say she is still relevant. Any other dumb comments people?

By todays standard, none of these people could even get a contract today. Their time has passed. Thank goodness.

Blake is merely a wannabe, not a country singer.

Well Devinmcmusters If the network thinks the same way you do they better be prepared to lose a giant part of the fans. The only reason most of us watch the show is to see Blake and Adam. Without either one of them there is no show. So if they go so do all the rest of us. You can stay and watch the remains,so sad!!!!!

"The Voice" is exceptional because the Judges are current, active members of the recording industry, and not has beens (like Brittney).

NBC needs a hit like Obama needs the Electoral College's votes. But two seasons per year will do nothing but dilute the product and burn out the cast that makes it interesting.
