Gary Allan, 'A Tough Goodbye' Is First Song On New, 'More Rocking' Album

Gary Allan is ready for fans to hear new music. The singer, who released his last album, Get Off On the Pain, in 2010, has been in the studio this spring working on his latest project. While the record is still untitled and doesn't yet have a release date, Gary reveals the first track on the album.

"I just finished it. I turned it in two days ago, and right now we're mastering it," Gary tells Maine newspaper the Bangor Daily News. "It's a really up album. It's a more rocking album than I've ever done. It covers everything from breaking up to healing. The first song is called 'A Tough Goodbye' and it really goes from there. It goes from anger to healing. I'm in Nashville right now, recording. I got to wake up in my own bed. It was nice."

The project is reflective of where Gary is at in his own life. "You get a glimpse of wherever I'm at now," Gary told The Boot in regards to how he changes his process for each album. "I've never listened to an album once I've finished it. All I hear is what I should've done different. I beat myself up over it. Not going back and focusing on what I'm writing currently, and what my friends have, always gives it a new shape. I don't have to try too hard to make it different."

The California native is currently on the Country Throwdown tour with Rodney Atkins, Justin Moore, Eric Paslay, Sunny Sweeney and Josh Thompson. It's an experience for him to become exposed to some of the up-and-coming acts in country music, and so far he's been impressed.

"I don't know too much about a lot of some of the newer folks, unfortunately," he admits. "But what I've seen on this tour has been great. Josh Thompson is a great songwriter, a great singer. He's gonna be around for a while."

The next stop for the tour is tonight (May 18) in Gulfport, Miss. Get a full list of tour dates here.

To devin mcmusters or whoever you are, Gary Allan is one of the best most talented singer/songwriters I have ever seen. Jason Aldean doesn't even write his own music he picks his songs from people who actually have talent. I went to see Gary in June and the arena was sold out and everyone having a great time. It sounds like you like him too if you keep going to shows so why post negative things about someone who has been through way more than I have and you too try losing a wife/partner who you have children with and keep writing and singing music about her pretty awesome I think.

I can't wait to hear Gary new album. I hope will be release soon. I am already for new music from Gary. I love Gary and all his shows and music. In July will be my 14th soon with Gary. I love Gary Fan Club Party for two years in row.

To Mr. Devin McMusters I have been so far to 13 shows of Gary Allan and I have never ever seen Gary drunk at all and couldn't finish show. He finishes his shows every single time and plus his encore. I also was at one of Gary's Country Throwdown show on June 3rd and he sold out the venue. All his shows are sell out. So Gary is not sooooooooooooo over like you think. l suggest for you to stay home!!!!!!! Not Gary Allan!!!!!! I have been fan of Gary Allan for a long time.

Gary said "A Tough Goodbye" is the first song on the album--that doesn't necessarily mean it is the first single. Given his track record of playing first singles off new albums at his fan club parties, and that this was not one of the 3 new songs he did at this year's party, I'm curious if your prediction is right. Regardless, all I have heard of his new music while in Nashville for CMA Afest this year has me quite anxious for it's release!

And in response to Devin McMusters, if Gary is "so over," why does he every year have one of the largest fan club parties and one of the first to sell out, and why were so many people in Nashville during CMA Fest clamoring to get tickets to his private show for GAC? Just because corporate radio rather play the young new kids over proven quality veteran artists doesn't mean Gary is "over." I have been a fan of his for a dozen years now and I think his newest music is every bit as good as what he did years ago. I feel sorry for you if you think otherwise.

Why doesn't he sell any concert tickets? Jason Aldean sold out the NYS Fair in one hour Saturday. Sunday only 4 thousand showed up to see Gary Allan.
Don't feel sorry for me. I saw Gary Allan in concert a couple years ago, and he was so drunk he could barely finish the show. Very sad. He should sober up and stay home and take care of his children.

I have seen Gary Allan in concert more times than I can even remember. He is sooooooooo nooooooooot over. And I have never seen him so drunk that he couldn't finish a show. Have never even seen him drunk come to think of it. So he takes a few slugs out of the Jack bottle, last time I checked he is over 21. But if you are so over him, just don't go to his shows. I can't imagine anyone would miss you!.
