Trace Adkins has once again mastered the uncommon blend of sarcasm and seduction with his brand-new song, "Them Lips (on Mine)." The catchy, uptempo tune is the first single from the country star's upcoming album, due this fall. Listen to the song below, in an exclusive online stream.
Written by Jim Beavers and Tom Shapiro, "Them Lips (on Mine)" has a success story pretty remarkable for the Nashville songwriting world, in that it made it onto an album less than one week after conception.
"We turned the song demo in on a Thursday. Someone in our office heard it and said, 'That would be good for Trace Adkins,'" Tom tells The Boot. "He was cutting the next Monday. Usually you don't get cuts that quickly. He cut it Monday morning, and Tuesday he announced it was his first single!"
The veteran tunesmith explains that he initially had a "little groove" and a musical idea coming into the writing session, while Jim came up with the idea of "lips right here," which was the song's original title.
"The song just took us where the song took us," he recalls. "Sometimes there's a personal story behind it but sometimes the song just writes itself."
A multiple BMI Songwriter of the Year winner, Tom Shapiro has co-penned dozens of huge hits in country music, including Brooks and Dunn's "Ain't Nothin' 'Bout You," Sara Evans' "No Place That Far," George Strait's "Living and Living Well," Keith Urban's "You Look Good in My Shirt" and many, many more. He's also the brains behind another sexy Trace Adkins song, "Hot Mama."
