2012 VH1 Do Something Awards Nominees Include Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton

Arlene Richie, jpistudios.com

Three country singers are being recognized for their good deeds with nominations for the 2012 VH1 Do Something! Awards. Taylor Swift is up for both Music Artist and Facebook trophies, while Miranda Lambert and husband Blake Shelton are nominated together for the Couples award for an Oklahoma charity concert.

As a performer, Taylor's good works include a benefit concert for tornado victims in the southeastern United States and a donation of $250,000 to football coach Nick Saban's charity Nick's Kids, as well as her work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, St. Jude Children's Hospital and Habitat for Humanity. In the Music Artist category, she faces off against Adam Lambert, Shakira, Will.i.am, Katy Perry and One Direction.

When it comes to social media, Taylor has been making waves since the beginning of career, so it's no surprise Do Something has taken notice of how she uses various platforms for good deeds. She's nominated in the Facebook category for using the networking site to respond to leukemia patient Kevin McGuire's prom invitation, which garnered more than 100,000 "likes" from fans. Also up for the award are Ben Affleck, Lenny Kravitz, Matt Damon and Taylor's bestie, Selena Gomez.

Country's reigning power couple, Miranda and Blake are taking on some of music, television and film's hottest pairs in the Couple category. The pair are being recognized for a benefit concert which raised $70,000 for a veteran's program and an animal shelter in Tishomingo, Okla. Also nominated are Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia di Rossi, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, and Jay-Z and Beyoncé.

Since 1996, DoSomething.org has been awarding individuals and groups or their community service. This year's ceremony will be hosted by "New Girl" castmates Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Lamorne Morris, and will tape on Aug. 19 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. It will air Aug. 21 at 9:00 PM ET on VH1.

Seriously Taylor, "Do Something," like taking vocal lessons.

I am sick of clowns like you bitchin' about Taylor's voice when you've never heard her albums, seen her shows or have an inkling of all the songs she's created so young. Haven't heard people whining about men whose voices pretty much suck like Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Tom Waits, Hank Williams Jr, etc lately either. Taylor has done more in her short life than you could if you had a thousand years on this planet, and is an emotional and intellectual refuge and pillar of strength for MILLIONS of girls, young women, and yes, adults too. Her accolades and awards are so vast it isn't easy to list them anymore, and she sold out 19 countries in 111 concerts to 1,600,000 people lately. I suppose being briliant, creative, beautiful, humble and a perfect role model is a bad thing, and you can whine in your 3.2 rice beer all you want 'RealCountry.' Taylor is so far above you, crossing genres, bringing good to millions and leaving a legacy that will be around when you're sleeping in a muddy slough after driving off in your truck with your dog 'cause you punched your sloppy wife with nine chins back in the doublewide.

You're tired of hearing people like me complain about Taylor's voice? Well, that just tells me that there are more people that agree that she can't sing.

I've seen enough of her live performances on awards shows and concerts on You Tube to know that the girl can't sing at all. If you're in the "singing business," you'd better know how to sing. She hurt poor Stevie Nicks' ears on the Grammys.

"Brilliant?" "Creative?" A second grader can write the same lyrics Taylor Swift writes.

Yeah, she has awards but for some reason, they're rewarding mediocrity. I guess it's the world we live in.

No amount of singing lessons can help someone who just does not have the talent. I have seen her live, and she is terrible. However she is getting much better at faking talent, using auto tune in her concerts and lip syncing at the Grammys this past year. Bravo to the biggest joke in country music....
