When Blake Shelton fan Patrick Connelly, arrived at a free outdoor show featuring his favorite singer in Overland Park, Kan., he had no idea of the attention his attendance would receive. Patrick, who is confined to a wheelchair due to a number of disabilities, discovered as soon as he arrived at the show that it was standing room only, meaning he was unable to see the stage with everyone standing in front of him.
"Patrick started crying because he couldn't see Blake Shelton, he couldn't see anything but the legs of the people in front of him," Patrick's mother, Cheryl Connelly explains (quote via The FW).
Although Patrick's mom and sister tried to lift him up, he proved too heavy, especially in the 100 degree heat. Thanks to two burly young men who jumped in and lifted him up -- for almost half an hour -- Patrick was able to see and hear his favorite singer. But that wasn't all.
Blake caught wind of the incident and invited Patrick backstage after the show. But the young men who held him up in the extreme heat disappeared before the Connellys were able to get their names. Cheryl says she hopes the media attention about their gracious act of kindness gives her the chance to she her appreciation again.
"I can't thank them enough for what that meant for my family, and especially for Patrick, for what it meant for him to be able to see that," she notes. "It brought tears to my daughter and myself."
