Toby Keith, 'Red Solo Cup' Goes Double-Platinum!

"It is the stupidest song I ever heard in my life, but it's so stupid it's good." That's what Toby Keith told The Boot about his mega-hit "Red Solo Cup." Now that "stupid" song has become the best-selling single of the superstar's nearly-20-year career.

"Red Solo Cup," released in October of last year, has since sold more than two million copies. It's the only one of Toby's singles to even have reached platinum status (one million), let alone double-platinum. The singer has scored a total of 10 gold- or platinum-selling singles since 2002, when his first half-million-seller "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)" was released.

Other heavy-metal earners of Toby's include "Beer for My Horses," (with Willie Nelson), "God Love Her" and "American Ride." "Red Solo Cup" is the second single released from his latest album, Clancy's Tavern. His first release from that disc, "Made in America" has sold more than 500,000 copies. Clancy's Tavern has sold more than a half-million copies since its release and, other than Unleashed with two gold singles and Shock'n Y'all with three, is the only Toby collection to feature multiple singles that have earned gold or platinum certification.

As of last month, the video for "Red Solo Cup" had amassed more than 16 million views on YouTube.

It just blows me away that a song that ridiculously stupid can be that big of a hit. And I've had to endure some downright stupid songs in my lifetime believe me. Songs like "They'e Coming To Take Me Away, Haha", and "Gimme Dat Ding", and "Rubber Ducky", and "Manah Manah" just to name a few. But none of those are as stupid as the Red Solo Cup song. You've got to hand it to Toby Keith though, he knows how to cash in on America's brainless and brainlessness. Where do we stand compared to the rest of the world on the intellect chart, dead last?

To Mr Toby Keith, even the stupidest Idea, can wind up being the, best Idea, it just goes to show that no matter what even stupid songs can produce. I think that Mr Keith has always produced Great music. When I hear somthing usually I can tell if it is a good song and Red Solo Cup is a wonderful song a huge Hit.

He is absolutely right.... this by far is the "stupidest" song that has ever been recorded!!

Nothing against Toby Keith here, I guess it's popularity just is a reflection of how stupid people are who like this song!!

How this song is double platinum is beyond me! Country music of today is not country but just plain garbage. I'll keep listening to Kitty Wells,George Jones and real country artists. I'd like to see Taylor Swift sing a real country song!! It can't happen because that woman truly cannot sing.
