Alan Jackson Show Canceled By Promoter, Festival Shut Down

It was a rough weekend for Alan Jackson fans in California. On Friday (July 20), the country icon had to postpone his show at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre due to illness. Then, Sunday night's show in Anderson, Calif. was canceled, with the following statement posted on Alan's website and social media pages:

"Following early morning e-mails from the promoter of the Jukebox Music Festival, Alan Jackson will not be performing as planned this evening in Anderson, CA. Jackson, his band and crew were on-site this morning, ready to load in and prepare for the show, but he will regretfully not be performing. Citing the postponement of Jackson's Friday show in Los Angeles, the promoter felt that this impacted ticket sales, even though Jackson played a sold-out show in Salinas, CA Saturday night. Jackson is sorry to disappoint his fans who had expected to see him tonight, but the trucks and buses will turn around and head to Los Angeles, where he is playing his rescheduled Greek Amphitheatre concert on Wednesday."

According to the Record Searchlight newspaper, it wasn't just Alan's performance at the Jukebox Music Festival that was canceled -- the entire event was shut down. At 2:00 PM on Sunday, the gates to the Shasta District Fairgrounds were locked and fans were told they were not allowed back on the property that was hosting the three-day concert, which was scheduled to continue well into the evening.

The festival's promoter, Allan Folino, has offered no further explanation. However, event official Jessie Cork did address the crowd Sunday, telling them that the cancellation was due to "unforeseen circumstances," but admitting she didn't know the cause nor whether or not refunds would be issued.

"We are very grateful for those of you who were able to join us on Friday and Saturday at the Jukebox Music Festival," reads a statement on the event's website. "Despite the hard work and dedication of countless volunteers, community supporters, and generous sponsors we are saddened to have to close the gates on our inaugural festival at 3 pm Sunday, July 22nd. We designed this event as a celebration of Northern California country and to help attract more attention to our area as a great destination. We are very sorry to have not been able to fulfill our dream. We hope you all enjoyed the two and a half days of music, dancing and eating. Thank you."

Alan will remain in California for the rest of the week, playing shows in Stockton on Friday (July 27) and Santa Barbara on Saturday (July 28). Get a full list of the singer's concert dates here.

Sounds like the promoter took the money and ran! Been there, done that! Worked a concert in Wisconsin several years ago where promoter jumped in his car and took off 2 hours before the show! NO ONE got paid and when the sound & lights were dismantled, the artists couldn't go on stage. Last anyone heard, the promoter was living in Mexico!

The promoters didn't budget correctly. Rather than own up to either ignorance or just poor planning, they make it sound like the artist is at fault. I would hope, given the area, that folks remember this , should the same promotion team try and get another production going.

It's a no-brainer. The organziers of this "innaugural" festival came up short -- as in No Money. Don't blame Jackson for poor planning by the producers of the event.

Someone is showing a lot of class by not giving details. I suspect that would be Alan Jackson.

Mr. Allan Folino will have to do business under another name in the future.

Mandoist - I completely agree . It was totally unprofessional for Mr. Folino to shut down the event, especially since Alan Jackson may have been the main reason some people bought tickets to the show. Perhaps he should've made it a 2-day event instead of a 3-day event. Maybe then he wouldn't have run out of money on the third day.
