"I hope that I'm able to be half of the parent that my parents were to me," she tells Taste of Country. "I always felt loved and wanted. I'm not a perfect person, and they weren't perfect parents, but they gave me some worth. That was the building blocks to everything, knowing that you're worth something and that you can go for something. That's going to be my main thing. They were always interested in what I was doing."
Mr. and Mrs. Buxton have watched their talented daughter wear many hats in the music business, and successfully so. In addition to her work as a solo artist, Sarah is is one half of the duo Buxton Hughes (with Jedd Hughes) and is a lauded songwriter. She's penned several hits for other people, including Keith Urban's "Stupid Boy" and "Put You in a Song."
It's songwriting that will be No. 2 to parenthood for Sarah, as she plans to park the tour bus and stick close to home.
"I knew that touring wasn't going to be something that I was personally going to be able to do and be the kind of mom I want to be," she acknowledges. "So I chose to go with songwriting, which was already something that I loved to do anyway."
