Darius Rucker, 'True Believers' Is a Marriage 'Anthem'

Darius Rucker always seems like a pretty even-keel guy, but at the moment, he's steaming mad. The reason, he tells CBS Local: He missed a recent deadline to release "True Believers," the first single form his forthcoming country album, due out this fall, and now fans will have to wait a little longer for the song.

"I want people hearing it now," Darius said. "I'm just so proud of it."

Darius describes the tune as "an anthem," though it's not about God or country or any other grandiose subject. Written with Josh Kear and producer Frank Rogers, it's about a husband and wife sticking together -- something the Hootie & the Blowfish frontman knows a thing or two about.

"It's so me and so personal in my life," he said. "It's the story about a husband and a wife who all their friends said were never going to make it, and all these years later all their friends are divorced and they're still together ... and everybody is still saying they're never going to make it.

"When I was singing it I was just laughing because it's such a defiant song," added Darius, who credits his missus with tolerating "a lot of crap" over the years. "It's a song that's saying to everybody, 'Screw you. I know we're going to make it. Through all the crap, we're going to be the two that make it.' And that's how my wife and I feel. I love the song."
