Randy Travis Arrested for DWI

AP

Randy Travis has had another run-in with the law. The Associated Press reports that the country icon has been charged with driving while intoxicated, as well as retaliation, after crashing his car Tuesday night (Aug. 7). The latter charge, according to TMZ, allegedly came after the singer verbally threatened the arresting officer. This is the second time behind bars this year for the Texas resident, who was arrested Feb. 6 for public intoxication in Sanger, Texas, after police found him parked outside a church with an open bottle of wine.

The most recent incident occurred in North Texas, near Randy's home of Tioga, around midnight. Luckily, no one was seriously injured in the single-car crash, though the "Forever and Ever Amen" singer did have several cuts and bruises on his face, as seen in his mugshot. He is currently jailed in Sherman -- about 60 miles north of Dallas -- waiting to post bond, which is $1,500 for the misdemeanor DWI charge and $20,000 for the felony retaliation charge.

Local TV station KTEN reports that Randy was found lying naked in the road after the crash. According to the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, the singer "had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and several signs of intoxication." After refusing both a breath and blood test to determine his sobriety, a judge granted a search warrant for a blood specimen and he was taken to a local hospital. It was on the ride to the hospital when Randy reportedly threatened to "shoot and kill" the officers working the case.

February's arrest led to a misdemeanor charge, and the legendary singer was released six hours later. He issued a statement to the Associated Press that same afternoon, apologizing for "what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl." He went on to promise that he is "committed to being responsible and accountable."

It's been a rocky year for Randy, who is also in the middle of a legal battle with his ex-wife. In April, Elizabeth Travis, who also managed her ex-husband, filed a breach-of-contract suit regarding her professional relationship with her ex. He retaliated in May, accusing her of sabotaging his career. A legal resolution has not yet been met. The couple divorced in 2010 after 19 years of marriage.

Randy has just a few days to straighten everything out. His concert dates resume Aug. 17, and he has a very important gig on Aug. 29, headlining the Got Your 6 benefit concert in Tampa, Fla., during the Republican National Convention. The event will raise money for programs that help military veterans returning home from war.

As a Black American country music has always been my favorite--and still is-- and you are one of my favorite singers. I wish you well. Please keep up the good work.

The naked part suggests meth. They get very overheated and sweat profusely. He was probably just trying to cool down.

I hope that Randy can quit drinking. It's a good thing that there was no one else in the crash and also glad that he did not get hurt that bad. I hope that he can get his act together. Maybe I should go and see him in the Sherman jail it is only 45 miles from where we live in Oklahoma. It is only about 25 miles from the Texas state line. Please Randy don't drink and drive.

Best wishes, Randy. I'm sorry for your troubles and hope better days are ahead. You have so much talent...please don't throw it away--and hurt others in the process. I know you don't want that, but it could happen. It happens even in the best of circumstances, so don't tempt fate. Do whatever's needed to overcome your demons. You can do it!

White trash and how dare he risk hurting innocent people. They need to put him under the jail. People who drink and drive under the influence are selfish and dont deserve freedom.

Randy Bruce Traywick (Randy Travis) is the real thing. Like most of us, his life has been filled with pleasure and pain. Since I feel like I know Randy better than most (reasons I wil keep secret), there is a genuine and good hearted man inside that singer. He has been thru a lot these past several years and his compass is spinning. I know the feeling since I went thru the same type of horror. Randy Bruce Traywick will come thru all of this and eventually his compass will point again to north .... I am asking God for that special blessing and I would trade his pain for mine if I could. He is one of God's special children and we are all blessed that he has shared his gifts of singing for so many years. From my heart to yours Randy.

NO excuses! He turned a vehicle into a murder weapon when he drove it drunk. Please...don't try to cover this one with sugar coating. He could have killed someone...and I got a feeling, he just got caught this time...that he is pretty much under the influence at all times.

Damn, waste of a perfectly good muscle car. There's got to be a country song somewhere in this episode. If not, waste of a perfectly good night out.
