Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan are lending their time and talents to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The country music superstars will all participate in the annual MDA Labor Day telethon, called "MDA Show of Strength," on Sept. 2.

Other artists participating in the three-hour telecast include Gavin DeGraw, Alanis Morissette, Paula Abdul, Hot Chelle Rae, Carole King, OneRepublic and Jesse McCartney, among others. The show will include performances from Nashville, Hollywood and New York, as well as celebrity appearances by Khloe Kardashian Odom, Nancy O'Dell and Alison Sweeney, among others. In addition, six families who have a personal connection to muscular dystrophy will share stories of strength, revealing how they have coped with such a debilitating disease.

"We couldn't be more excited about the show and the incredible talent we have lined up this year," says MDA Interim President Valerie Cwik, M.D. "MDA is in business to save and enhance lives. Our show will both entertain and urge the American public to answer the call to support critically important research and services for more than a million Americans affected by neuromuscular diseases."

"MDA Show of Strength" will air Sept. 2 at 7:00 PM ET on MDA's Love Network of more than 150 stations across the country, as well as on the MDA website. See a complete list of stations that will air the broadcast here.

Well they cut the Telethon to 3 hours this year. That apparently means next year it will be an hour and half, then 45 minutes in 2014 and in 2015...Gone! Puff! This has to be the most unfair treatment of a person in my lifetime. Jerry Lewis was MDA. He was supposed to be "Honorary Chairmen" of MDA. So much for that. During this fiasco I have never seen an individual take responsibility for firing Jerry and ending an American National institution that was the "Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon", no names, no nothing. I hope he can sleep at night. The gutless wonder who heads this organization should be fired by the people who gave them $60 million every year for so many years. That telethon was so much more than a fund raiser. But I too will continue to donate to find a cure for "Jerry's Kids". ONLY through local events though, NEVER through the national organization. God bless Jerry Lewis. The right people know that you were behind every dollar raised.

I agree with almost the entire world. How in the hell can we help our children with a 3 hour show. I got up to watch thie telthon and to my surprise,THere was no show!! I have a son with DMD that needs the research. WE need the research team to continue the work of a cure. How will we pay the research team? My son needs back surgery which I have no money to pay for it. In turn of that he will need extra special care. All of JERRY'S KIDS need help and the telethon helps..Who is running the show down there? SHAME on you,Jerry would never approve and to me it was a slap in the face.....

I turned on the TV awhile ago to catch some of the telethon, as I have become accustomed to it being on during the Labor Day weekend. But to my surprise, as I turned to it, it was going off! I could not beleive it! I got online to find out some info. and found out it was only on for 3 hours! WHAT? And I read it's not even live! No tote board even! That was the big thing about it! It was great to see the totals going up! And no Jerry! This is just outrageous! I can't beleive that this was done to Jerry! No send off, no thank you, no nothing! Why? This man devoted himself to MDA! Since 1966 if my memory is right. He has helped raise like 2 billion dollars for MDA. What did he do for MDA to disrespect him so badly. Even if they thought he should retire, it could have been handled in a more respectful manner. And for his years of dedication to MDA and Jerrys kids, they should have honored this man! Sickening that they have ruined the telethon. I can't believe that I did not see the telethon this year. Only 3 hours? WOW! Guess they are not so concerned with raising money anymore! I hope for the sake of Jerrys kids, that TPTB will reconsider what they have done to the telethon, and realize that they have made some bad decisions. And then I hope they will extend the telethon, bring it back live, and with a tote board, and more than anything, bring back Jerry!

I was very disappointed in tonight's show. First on their lead in they showed Terry Fater as one of the acts but I never saw him. Unless he performed when it cut away to our local station. The Silhouettes was the best group. I remember them from AGT last year.
I enjoyed watching the clips about the kids which is what this all about. And your right these are Jerry's kids and always will be. Much better when he did it live!

Without Jerry Lewis, there is no show.; I won't watch it again. All the 'hands out' today the world, only thing that distinguishes one from the other (hundreds, or more) is the 'host' if not some personal reason to embrace a particular cause. Reference 'MDA', was Lewis that attracted viewership mine. Love or hate him, that an 86 year old person any wouldn't have gone on forever is obvious, but not the point. Rather, the way he was released/fired etc. 'is' the point. As well, I don't buy their stated $ucce$$ last year sans Lewis to the tune $61 million any more than their shallow mention of him the 2011 telethon. Life may go on, but the MDA will never again be the same.

I am deeply saddened at the way the MD association operates. Other thatn the person that mentioned earlier they will give to the boot. My self I will forgo giving to the firefighters as I will let them go to their union and let them fill it.

I just read all of your comments and I am deeply saddened. My son has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. I beg of you not to continue berating MDA and the telethon in general when the real problem is the politics of humans on boards. That should not be a reason to pin this negativity on all those who work tirelessly to find a cure or help these kids get equipment they desperately need etc etc etc. The telethon may not be the same but maybe it could be even better. I agree jerry should be acknowledged continuously for his previous work but please don't hurt the kid's chance for people to have awareness of their disease or take away their parent's hope that they may have understanding from their peers about what they might be going through. This telethon is so much more than fundraising.
