Colt Ford Celebrity Golf Classic Tees Off Sept. 24

Average Joe's Entertainment

He's a country-rap artist with some famous pals in the business and also a former pro golfer/golf instructor. So it's a natural move for Colt Ford to announce his First Annual Colt Ford & Friends Celebrity Golf Classic. Set for Sept. 24 at Chateau Elan just outside Atlanta, proceeds from the event will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Among the artists joining Colt for the event are Darius Rucker, Jake Owen, Justin Moore, Jamey Johnson, John Anderson, John Michael Montgomery, Jason Michael Carroll, Laura Bell Bundy, plus professional golfers Tommy Gainy, Brian Gay, Heath Slocum, Harris English, Brendan Todd, Hudson Swofford, Brian Harmon, Kyle Thomson, William McGirt, Tommy Biershenk, Ken Duke, Scott Brown, Boo Weekley, Matt Bettincourt, Josh Broadaway, Kris Blanks and Sean Cain.

"I could not think of a better way to raise money than playing golf with a group of my good buddies," says Colt. "I really wanted to help contribute to the efforts of the amazing doctors, researches and staff at St. Jude. I am thankful for the opportunity to give back to such an outstanding organization."

Colt currently has the No. 1 country album with Declaration of Independence, his fourth studio release.

"That's an appropriate title for the way I do business," Colt tells The Boot. "To maintain my independence as a musician, I've done everything my way on my own label. I think a lot of people in the business sometimes wish they'd done things this way."

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a pioneering organization in the research and treatment of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

There is no way you can get him off a couch and out from under a bag of Cheetos to swing a golf club. Absolutely no way.
