Taylor Swift Wins CCMA Generational Award

Isaac Brekken, AP

In celebration of its thirty year anniversary, the Canadian Country Music Association has created a new award to honor artists who have helped increase the genre's global popularity. The first recipient of the CCMA Generation Award is a no-brainer.

"With her increased and continual success on the international scene, Taylor Swift embodies every aspect of the CCMA Generation Award," says Ted Ellis, Chair of CCMA Board of Directors. "Since 2010, she has not only become the biggest-selling country artist in Canada, she is also one of the top selling artists in the world, across all genres. Taylor has already been recognized with over 100 prestigious international industry honours (including three previous CCMA awards for Top Selling Album) and she maintains a connection with her 200 million fans online daily."

Taylor will receive this latest honor during the 2012 CCMA Awards broadcast, which is set for Sept. 9 on the CBC network, with encore airings to broadcast on CMT Canada. Johnny Reid leads this year's nominees with eight nods. He is also scheduled to perform on the live show, as are Terri Clark, Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert, Pistol Annies, Eric Church, George Canyon and Paul Brandt.
