"I had a friend do the Heimlich on me," Luke recalls to People Country. "It was pretty freaky there for about 30 seconds. A piece of flatbread pizza flaked off and got lodged in my airway and I went down. He picked me up and got it out of there!"
Luke, who is a first-time nominee for CMA Male Vocalist and Album of the Year is also getting ready to kick off his first headlining trek next year. He says he can think of plenty of things to be thankful for -- but they have nothing to do with his current success. "My two boys [four-year-old Bo and Tate, two] and my wife and I are all very blessed with health and happiness -- and I'm loving that!"
Luke and his family recently moved to a new location that will allow them plenty of space to enjoy the simple pleasures. "My wife and I just bought a farm south of Nashville," he reveals."I go there and play on tractors and sit in the dirt creeks and rivers with my boys."
For now, Luke's time down on that particular farm will be limited but there's another on the horizon. In addition to continuing as an opening act on Jason Aldean's My Kinda Party tour, the singer-songwriter will perform several solo shows, including eight dates his own fourth annual Farm tour.
